WALNUT GROVE ELEMENTARY OPENED IN THE FALL OF 2011.

WE VALUE KINDNESS, COMPASSION, INTEGRITY, SELF-DISCIPLINE, AND DOING OUR BEST IN ACADEMICS.

DURING 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR, COACH BRIANNA HALL LED WGES TO CELEBRATION AS THE SECOND SCHOOL IN UNITED STATES FOR RAISING AWARENESS AND DONATIONS FOR KIDS HEART CHALLENGE.

AS A CAMPUS, WE ALSO VALUE GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY WITH OUR GRADE LEVEL DONATION DRIVE TO THE ANIMAL SHELTER, HOMELESS SHELTERS, TOYS FOR TOTS, AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS IN NEED.

LAST YEAR, WE CELEBRATED MR. STEFAN BENEDETTI AS THE WALNUT GROVE TEACHER OF THE YEAR, BUT THEN HE WAS ALSO RECOGNIZED AS THE CARROLL ISD ELEMENTARY TEACHER OF THE YEAR [APPLAUSE]. THE WALNUT GROVE [INAUDIBLE] IS MADE UP OF THIRD AND FOURTH GRADERS.

MR. STEFAN BENEDETTI LEADS OUR GROUP.

WE PRACTICE ONCE A WEEK AND PERFORM AT VARIOUS EVENTS ON AND OFF CAMPUS.

THIS YEAR WE HAVE ABOUT 60 SINGERS IN OUR CHOIR.

WE WILL BE PERFORMING THE DRAGON CREED.

THIS MOTTO IS WHAT EVERY DRAGON AT WALNUT GROVE SAYS EACH MORNING TO START OUR DAY, MR. B HAS PUT IT TO MUSIC AND WE WILL NOW PERFORM IT FOR YOU [APPLAUSE].

THERE ARE MANY OF THEM ABOUT TO COME IN HERE TO SING FOR YOU GUYS, MAYBE, THEY'RE COMING.

[00:05:45]

TOLD YOU THERE WAS A LOT OF THEM.

[SINGING] THAT IS AMAZING HONOR CHOIR [APPLAUSE].

IF YOU COULD SHARE THAT SONG WITH THE OTHER CAMPUSES, THAT'D BE GREAT.

BUT JUST CHANGE A FEW WORDS.

[00:10:30]

MIC] ALL RIGHT. WOW, THAT WAS INCREDIBLE.

WAY TO GO WALNUT GROVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AND I EXPECT THIS TO GET BIGGER AND BIGGER EACH MONTH.

THIS IS THE TOTAL INTENT OF THIS AND RECOGNIZING A CAMPUS EVERY MONTH IN THAT DR.

DAVIS JUST ONE UPPED MR. HOLLIDAY, AND I DON'T KNOW WHO'S NEXT, BUT WE EXPECT BIG THINGS.

I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL IS GOING TO COME UP WITH IN A FEW MONTHS.

SO CONGRATULATIONS.

THANK YOU, DR. DAVIS.

THAT WAS AN AWESOME PRESENTATION.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WE'LL CONTINUE WITH ITEM NUMBER FOUR ON OUR AGENDA RECOGNITIONS TONIGHT.

[4. RECOGNITIONS]

ITEM 4.2 IS BOARD RECOGNITION OF OUR GIRLS WATER POLO TEAM THAT WERE THE STATE RUNNER UP.

WE'RE SO PROUD OF THEM. AND THEIR SECOND YEAR AND THE FIRST FULL YEAR I THINK OF WATER POLO.

SO MISS BENHOFF, ARE YOU GOING TO INTRODUCE OR KICK US OFF.

ALL RIGHT. YES.

OKAY. WELL LET ME RAISE THIS A LITTLE BIT.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO FOLLOW THAT.

WE DON'T NEED THAT.

ALL RIGHT, SO IT IS MY PLEASURE TO INTRODUCE TONIGHT COACH KEITH GOMEZ AND COACH CHAVA OSORIO, BOTH COACHES FOR GIRLS WATER POLO. THIS IS COACH GOMEZ'S SECOND YEAR AS OUR WATER POLO COACH AND ACCOMPANIED THIS YEAR BY COACH OSORIO.

SO COME ON UP HERE, GUYS, AND BRING YOUR TEAM WITH YOU.

LOOK AT THIS.

THANK YOU, DR. LEDBETTER, FOR INVITING US AND BOARD FOR HONORING US TODAY.

THE GIRLS HAD A TRULY REMARKABLE SEASON.

THEY FINISHED THE YEAR 24 AND 2 AND COULDN'T BE MORE PROUDER OF OF HOW THEY HOW THEY PERFORMED IN THE IN THE POOL AND THEN NOW OUT OF THE POOL TOO IN THE CLASSROOM AS WELL.

SO WE HAVE AN OUTSTANDING GROUP OF YOUNG LADIES, AND THEY'RE LED BY OUR SENIOR CAPTAIN, JOJO WALTERS, WHO'S IS ALSO AN ALL-STATE PLAYER, IN MY OPINION, THE BEST PLAYER IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

AND WE'RE ALSO BLESSED TO HAVE THE BEST GOALIE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, IN MY OPINION SOMOTO OKAFO, OTHER GIRLS HERE THAT WERE INCREDIBLY WERE WERE GREAT WITH US THIS YEAR WAS MAILE FARDEN, SYDNEY RUBIN, ANOTHER CAPTAIN THAT LEADS BOTH IN AND OUT OF THE WATER AS WELL.

CAMI BETTENCOURT AND THEN AND THEN KATIE DID AN AWESOME, JUST AN INCREDIBLE JOB.

SO THE GIRLS WE SET THE SEASON TO TRY TO BE THE STATE CHAMPION THIS YEAR, WE KIND OF FELL SLIGHTLY SHORT OF OUR GOAL, BUT THIS GROUP OF KIDS FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS HAVE ALMOST WON CLOSE TO 50 GAMES AND ONCE AGAIN JUST REALLY PROUD OF THEIR EFFORTS AND STUFF SO.

THAT'S AWESOME.

THANK YOU [APPLAUSE].

[00:15:32]

MIC] CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN, LADIES WATER POLO ON YOUR STATE RUNNER UP.

FANTASTIC. GREAT JOB.

MOVING ON TO ITEM 4.3.

ALSO BOARD RECOGNITIONS.

WE HAVE A LOT OF RECOGNITIONS TONIGHT.

THIS IS OUR MONTHLY INSPIRE EXCELLENCE FOR OUR TEACHERS.

I THINK FIRST WE HAVE MISS WHEELER.

MISS WHEELER, THERE YOU ARE.

GOOD EVENING, DR. LEDBETTER, PRESIDENT BRYAN AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

AS A PRINCIPAL OF DURHAM INTERMEDIATE, I'M THRILLED TO BE HERE TO CELEBRATE OUR DIS INSPIRED TEACHER, MS. KINLEY FISHER.

I'LL LET YOU COME UP AND JOIN ME.

ANYONE WHO HAS SPENT TIME WITH MS. FISHER KNOWS THAT SHE LEADS WITH ORGANIZATION, FOCUS, AND THOUGHTFULNESS.

AS A DEDICATED AND TALENTED MATH TEACHER, MS. FISHER IS A TRUE GIFT TO DURHAM AS SHE LOVES HER KIDS MORE THAN CURRICULUM.

MS. FISHER STRIVES FOR EXCELLENCE HERSELF AND SUPPORTS EACH OF HER STUDENTS TO REACH THEIR POTENTIAL.

THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS WERE WRITTEN BY OUR LOVELY PARENTS.

MS. FISHER ORGANIZES CLASS EVENTS, PLAYS MUSIC, AND GETS TO KNOW OUR KIDS.

SHE ALSO GIVES JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF HOMEWORK.

AS PARENTS FOR SUPPORT WHEN NEEDED AND HAS EXCELLENT INSTRUCTION.

TALK ABOUT A GREAT PARTNER! MY STUDENT IS NOT A BIG FAN OF MATH.

SHE WAS A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT FIFTH GRADE ACCELERATION MATH, ESPECIALLY WITH THE BIG TRANSITION TO FIFTH GRADE, BUT TAKING ACCELERATED MATH WITH MS. FISHER HAS MADE A TOUGH CLASS, EASY, FUN, AND GIVEN MY CHILD CONFIDENCE.

MS. FISHER, THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOURSELF WITH DURHAM INTERMEDIATE, WERE BOTH BLESSED AND HONORED TO HAVE YOU TEACHING OUR DRAGONS.

CONGRATULATIONS. THANK YOU [APPLAUSE].

ALL RIGHT. OUR NEXT TEACHER RECOGNITION, MS. LEWIS. ALL RIGHT.

GOOD EVENING, DR.

LEDBETTER AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

IT ALWAYS IS EXTREMELY SUCH A PLEASURE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A CHANCE TO RECOGNIZE OUR TEACHERS.

AND IT HUMBLES ME AND MAKES ME REALLY FEEL EXCITED TO BRING FORWARD EMILY SMITH AS ONE OF THIS MONTH'S INSPIRE EXCELLENCE TEACHERS.

SO COME AND JOIN ME [APPLAUSE].

NOW I'M GOING TO TELL YOU A LITTLE STORY.

SO LAST YEAR WE HAD AN OPENING FOR A COACH AND A TEACHER, AND WE DID HAVE TO KIND OF GO OUT AND SAY, HEY, IS THERE AN EXTRA PERSON WHO'D LIKE TO COME ON OUR CAMPUS AND HELP US COACH? I WAS SO EXCITED THAT FROM EMILY SMITH, SHE SENDS ME AN EMAIL AND SAYS, I'LL HELP OUT.

I'D LOVE TO DO THAT.

EMILY AT THE TIME WAS AT DURHAM INTERMEDIATE, AND EVERY SINGLE DAY IN THE MORNING AND THE AFTERNOON, SHE CAME OVER TO OUR CAMPUS TO COACH OUR GIRLS, WENT BACK TO DURHAM AND TAUGHT AND CAME RIGHT BACK TO CARROLL MIDDLE SCHOOL.

AND I GOT NOTHING BUT PRAISE FOR HER FROM PARENTS, FROM THE KIDS, AND SHE WAS ALREADY A PART OF OUR CAMPUS.

SO THIS YEAR, WHEN WE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE HER TO OURSELVES, IT WAS AN IMMEDIATE PLEASE COME JOIN US.

I AM A FORMER COACH, AND SO I UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO PUT A LOT OF TIME AND ENERGY AND PASSION AND DEDICATION TO YOUR ATHLETES.

AND EMILY DOES THAT EVERY SINGLE DAY.

SHE DOES THAT IN HER CLASSROOM, AND SHE IS ALWAYS ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE TO SAY, HEY, I CAN HELP YOU OUT.

I CAN DO ANYTHING THAT YOU NEED ME TO DO.

AND ON TOP OF THAT, SHE HAS BEEN SOMEONE WHO PARENTS HAVE CONTINUED TO EMAIL ME THANKING HER FOR WHAT SHE'S DONE AS A COACH.

AND SO I DO WANT TO READ A SMALL SNIPPET OF WHAT ONE OF THE PARENTS SAID.

SHE SAID COACH SMITH'S PASSION FOR MENTORING HER YOUNG STUDENT ATHLETES IS AMAZING.

[00:20:04]

SHE GAVE MY DAUGHTER THE CONFIDENCE AND STRENGTH TO EXCEL IN HER SPORT.

MY DAUGHTER IS A VERY QUIET BUT STRONG VOLLEYBALL PLAYER.

SHE HAS PLAYED AT VERY HIGH LEVELS AND DONE VERY WELL, BUT NEVER FELT IMPORTANT TO THE TEAM OR FELT LIKE THE COACH NEEDED OR RELIED ON HER.

COACH SMITH MADE HER FEEL LIKE THAT.

COACH SMITH GAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO BE A LEADER ON AND OFF THE COURT.

SHE MADE HER FEEL IMPORTANT AND NEEDED.

AS A PARENT I CAN'T BEGIN TO EXPLAIN HOW MUCH THAT MEANS TO ME.

FROM THE VERY FIRST GAME, I COULD SEE A DIFFERENT KID OUT THERE.

SHE KNEW HER COACH NEEDED HER AND WANTED HER.

I COULD SEE A WEIGHT LIFTED OFF HER SHOULDERS.

COACH SMITH DID THIS I AM BEYOND GRATEFUL FOR HER.

I'LL TELL YOU THAT MEANS A LOT, BECAUSE BEING ABLE TO INSTILL THAT CONFIDENCE IN YOUNG ATHLETES AT THIS POINT IN THEIR ATHLETIC CAREER IS SO VITAL, AND SHE REALLY DOES DO THAT. AND IF YOU EVER GET A CHANCE TO WATCH HER COACH, IT IS A TREAT AND I ABSOLUTELY INVITE YOU TO DO SO.

SO CONGRATULATIONS EMILY SMITH [APPLAUSE].

CONGRATULATIONS.

WE ARE REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE THE NEWEST RECOGNITION AND THAT IS EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH IS THE FIRST TIME EVER THAT WE HAVE DONE THAT.

SO WE'RE SUPER EXCITED FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER.

AND IS MS. BENHOFF.

MISS BENHOFF.

OKAY. TWO TIMES ONE NIGHT.

WHAT A TREAT FOR YOU GUYS, RIGHT? YEP. OH, YEAH.

OKAY. IT IS MY PLEASURE TO HONOR BECCA PIRIANO.

COME ON UP HERE. BECCA.

COUNSELOR FOR STUDENTS WITH LAST NAMES L THROUGH P AT CARROLL HIGH SCHOOL.

MRS. PIRIANO HAS BEEN AT CARROLL HIGH SCHOOL SINCE 2018.

BUT BEFORE JOINING OUR COUNSELING TEAM, SHE TAUGHT MATH IN CARROLLTON-FARMERS BRANCH ISD.

MRS. PIRIANO WAS NOMINATED FOR THE INSPIRE EXCELLENCE EMPLOYEE AWARD BY SOME OF OUR PARENTS IN THIS DISTRICT.

ONE PARENT HAD WRITTEN MS. PIRIANO IS PROMPT, HELPFUL, AND HAS A POSITIVE ATTITUDE IN EVERY INTERACTION WE'VE HAD.

SHE IS AN EXEMPLARY EXAMPLE OF A MOTIVATED, EFFECTIVE, AND POSITIVE SCHOOL COUNSELOR.

ANOTHER PARENT WROTE, WHEN WE MOVED TO SCHOOL IN 2022, WE HAD A BUNCH OF QUESTIONS.

SHE WAS AVAILABLE TO ANSWER THEM AND GUIDE US THROUGH THE PROCESS.

AFTER THAT, SHE HAD BEEN OUR POINT OF CONTACT FOR ANY HELP REGARDING RESOURCES OR GUIDANCE.

AND THE BEST THING IS SHE DOES IT PROMPTLY AND HAPPILY.

PRETTY GOOD WORDS.

LAST PARENT WROTE HERE SHE RESPONDS TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS PROMPTLY AND GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND SIMPLY ANSWERING A QUESTION.

SHE IS EXTREMELY POSITIVE, HIGHLY ENERGETIC, AND MOTIVATED TO PROVIDE THE BEST EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE, AND SHE DOES IT VERY EFFECTIVE EFFECTIVELY AT WHAT SHE DOES. SO I CAN GO ON RECORD TO SAY THAT MRS. PIRIANO IS EVERYTHING THAT THESE WONDERFUL PARENTS HAVE DESCRIBED HER TO BE.

SHE'S ALWAYS POSITIVE, VERY EFFICIENT AND HIGHLY LOVED.

SO THANK YOU, MRS. PIRIANO.

CONGRATULATIONS. THANK YOU [APPLAUSE].

[00:25:41]

THANK YOU.

OKAY. CONGRATULATIONS.

NEXT UP ON OUR RECOGNITION IS OUR SUBSTITUTE OF THE MONTH.

I THINK DR. DAVIS WILL BE PRESENTING.

[INAUDIBLE] SO IT IS HONOR.

I'M HONORED TO RECOGNIZE DONNA SWINDELL AS THE DRAGON SUPER SUBSTITUTE OF THE MONTH.

AND SHE JUST HAPPENED TO WORK IN KINDERGARTEN TODAY, SO WE'RE VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THAT.

SHE MIGHT BE A LITTLE TIRED.

DONNA IS AN EXCELLENT EDUCATOR WHO HAS MADE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY AT WALNUT GROVE AS THE SUPER SUB OF THE MONTH.

HER DEDICATION, COMPASSION AND VERSATILITY, AND WORKING WITH OUR STUDENTS IN VARIOUS EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS INCLUDING GENERAL EDUCATION, SPECIAL EDUCATION, AND ENCORE, HIGHLIGHT HER COMMITMENT TO ENSURING THE WELL-BEING AND SUCCESS OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.

DONNA'S WILLINGNESS TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING THE SCHOOL EVEN AFTER HER RETIREMENT SPEAKS VOLUMES [INAUDIBLE] FOR HER PASSION OF EDUCATION AND GENUINE CARE FOR THE STUDENTS OF WALNUT GROVE ELEMENTARY.

HER ABILITY TO CONNECT WITH STUDENTS, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO NEED IT THE MOST, IS A TESTAMENT TO HER EMPATHY AND UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR UNIQUE NEEDS.

DONNA SHOWS LOYALTY, DEDICATION AND PROMOTES THE POSITIVE ATMOSPHERE WE HOLD DEAR AT WALNUT GROVE.

SUBSTITUTES LIKE DONNA PLAY A VITAL ROLE IN THE SHAPING THE FUTURE OF STUDENTS AND LEAVING A LASTING IMPACT ON THEIR LIVES.

SHE IS TRULY DESERVING OF A RECOGNITION AND APPRECIATION FOR HER OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. THANK YOU [APPLAUSE].

ALL RIGHT. CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE.

NEXT UP ON OUR AGENDA IS PUBLIC COMMENTS.

[5. PUBLIC COMMENTS]

I BELIEVE WE HAVE ONE SPEAKER TONIGHT.

MISS YELTON, WILL YOU PLEASE CALL UP OUR FIRST SPEAKER? YOU'LL HAVE THREE MINUTES.

WE DO HAVE ONE SPEAKER THIS EVENING, MARISSA MAHONE.

GOOD EVENING, TRUSTEES AND DR.

LEDBETTER. MY NAME IS MARISSA MAHON, AND I'M THE MOM TO TWO DRAGONS.

I CAME HERE TONIGHT AS I'M VERY PASSIONATE AND SUPPORTIVE OF OUR PARAPROFESSIONALS, AND I'VE HAD CONCERNS OF STAFFING.

IN AUGUST OF 2021, MYSELF AND ANOTHER MOM DID A PRESENTATION IN PUBLIC COMMENTS ABOUT PARAPROFESSIONAL PAY ALMOST A YEAR AGO TO THIS DAY, I DID ANOTHER PRESENTATION ABOUT THE PARAPROFESSIONAL PAY FOR COMPARISON TO OTHER DISTRICTS.

IN FEBRUARY OF 2023, I BROUGHT BACK THIS ONE PAGER AS THIS WAS A SUB DATA FOR THE 2021 -2022 SCHOOL YEAR, AND THE SUMMARY FROM MY PRIOR PRESENTATION WAS FIRST LEGALLY REQUIRED SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL SUBSTITUTE POSITIONS ARE 27% LESS LIKELY TO BE FILLED COMPARED TO ALL DISTRICT SUBSTITUTE POSITIONS. SECOND, THE SPED TEACHING POSITIONS ARE NOT AFFECTED, SO THE 57% OF LEGALLY REQUIRED SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL POSITIONS THAT WERE NOT FILLED WERE LEAVING STUDENTS WITHOUT THE APPROPRIATE SUPPORT TO ACCESS A FREE AND APPROPRIATE EDUCATION.

[00:30:04]

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? IT MEANS PARAS MAY HAVE TO COMBINE KIDS FOR LUNCHES AND RECESSES OUTSIDE THEIR NORMAL SCHEDULE, AND NOT WITH THEIR PEERS, AND THE PARENTS MAY NOT KNOW THAT THEY'RE NOT AT THE RIGHT RECESS BECAUSE KIDS ARE NOT VERBAL, AND MANY KIDS IN SELF-CONTAINED CLASSROOMS CANNOT SELF-REPORT.

PARAPROFESSIONALS COMPLETE DATA COLLECTION OF IEP GOALS.

THEY KNOW HOW TO DOCUMENT, WHAT ACCOMMODATIONS ARE USED, AND HOW TO COMPLETE DATA COLLECTION SHEETS ON GOALS.

AGAIN, IN THE 2021 SCHOOL YEAR, 514 OUT OF 905 SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONALS SUB OPPORTUNITIES WENT UNFULFILLED.

IN ADDITION TO MANY OF THESE, PARAS ARE TRAINED WITH FIDELITY ON BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION PLANS.

THESE ARE NOT EASY POSITIONS TO FILL IN AND A CHANGE WITH A RANDOM STAFF MEMBER IS NOT A REASONABLE SOLUTION, NOT ONLY FOR THE EMPLOYEE THAT HAS PRIMARY DUTIES AND AN OVERFLOWING PLATE, BUT SUBSTITUTES IN GENERAL.

AND CHANGES FOR OUR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES, ESPECIALLY IN A SELF-CONTAINED CLASSROOM, IS NOT OPTIMAL.

OUR KIDS THRIVE ON CONSISTENCY, RELATIONSHIPS, AND THE OUTCOME OF THAT IS AN IEP THAT'S IMPLEMENTED WITH FIDELITY.

SUBS DO NOT PROVIDE THE CORRELATIONAL SAFETY TO CHILDREN WITH SIGNIFICANT DISABILITIES.

MY SUGGESTION PREVIOUSLY IN 2022, WAS TO REPEAT THE REVIEW OF THE DATA FOR THAT YEAR AND ALSO ENSURING PHYSICIANS THAT WERE ON TABULATOR AND NOT JUST ERASED.

NEXT WAS TO ANALYZE THE SUBSTITUTE PAY FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONALS.

AS WE LOOK OVER TONIGHT, THE SUBS DON'T TELL THE STORY WITH THE DATA THAT WE HAVE.

AS OF SEPTEMBER 1ST, ONLY 10 VACANT SPECIAL EDUCATION POSITIONS WERE LISTED.

WE CURRENTLY HAVE 17 CONTRACTED PARA SPED PARAS AT THE RATE OF $35 AN HOUR.

WE DIDN'T CONVERT.

WE HAVE 56 NON CONTRACTED SPED PARAS.

THIS IS MY THIRD YEAR HAVING THESE DISCUSSIONS.

AND SO ALTHOUGH I'M VERY GRATEFUL TO CONSIDER THE THE PAY RAISE FOR THE SUBSTITUTES, IT'S NOT ENOUGH FOR OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAS, 46% OF OUR SPED PARAS HAVE ONLY BEEN HERE SINCE LAST SCHOOL YEAR, AND 66% OF OUR PARAS HAVE ONLY BEEN HERE SINCE 2021.

SO I REALLY WOULD LOVE TO LOOK AT THE OVERALL SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL PAY.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, MS. MAHON.

AND SINCE THIS IS ON THE AGENDA, WE CAN OPEN IT UP FOR DISCUSSION.

I HAVE JUST A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.

NUMBER ONE IS WE'RE CONSIDERING INCREASING THE SUBSTITUTE PARA PAY.

IS THAT SOMETHING THE AMOUNT SOMETHING THAT YOU THINK WILL BE EFFECTIVE IN HELPING US SECURE MORE SUBS? AND IF NOT, IS THERE IS THERE A NUMBER THAT YOU, THROUGH YOUR RESEARCH, HAVE FOUND THAT MIGHT BE MORE EFFECTIVE? I THINK THAT WILL STILL HELP ATTRACT AND SPEAKING TO OUR CURRENT SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL SUBS, THERE'S ONLY A FEW KEY PEOPLE THAT CONTINUE TO DO THIS POSITION.

AND SO IF YOU WANTED TO COME SPEAK TONIGHT, BUT TIME DID NOT ALLOW THEM TO.

AND SO I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A SURVEY DONE TO FIND OUT WHY OTHER INDIVIDUALS DON'T COME SUBSTITUTE.

IS IT MONEY? IS IT BECAUSE THEY WANT SOME ADDITIONAL TRAINING.

BECAUSE THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THAT POSSIBLY.

AND SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST SCARED TO GO WORK IN THESE CLASSROOMS. SEVERAL OF Y'ALL HAVE COME IN AND OBSERVED AND IT'S JUST NOT AN EASY POSITION TO FILL.

SO I THINK THAT THE PAY WILL HELP.

I DON'T KNOW THAT IT'S GOING TO REALLY FIX THAT 57% DEFICIT.

AND I WOULD REALLY JUST LOVE FOR OUR CURRENT PARAPROFESSIONALS TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A LONGER TENURE HERE.

WE SHOULDN'T HAVE SUCH A HIGH TURNOVER RATE.

OKAY. THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR MS. MAHON? OKAY.

THANK YOU MS. MAHON. THANK YOU ALL.

ALL RIGHT, MOVING ON TO OUR NEXT PORTION OF THE AGENDA.

ITEM NUMBER SIX, CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON ANY MATTERS ADDRESSED IN EXECUTIVE SESSION.

WE DO NOT HAVE ANY.

SO WE WILL MOVE ON TO ITEM NUMBER SEVEN, WHICH IS THE PRESIDENT'S REPORT.

[7. PRESIDENT'S REPORT]

AND BEFORE I ASK OUR TRUSTEES FOR REPORT OUT ON COMMITTEE REPORTS, I JUST WANT TO SAY I HOPE EVERYONE HAD A GREAT VETERAN'S DAY WEEKEND, AND WERE ABLE TO HONOR AND THANK THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED OUR COUNTRY TO PROTECT OUR FREEDOMS. THANK YOU ALL. AND IN PARTICULAR, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK TRUSTEE SEXTON FOR YOUR SERVICE.

YOU KNOW, WE APPRECIATE YOU TRUSTEE.

AND I UNDERSTOOD THAT YOU HAD AN AWESOME SPEECH AT THE HIGH SCHOOL THE OTHER DAY.

AND, YOU KNOW, THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, ANY, I'LL OPEN IT UP FOR COMMITTEE REPORTS.

SO WE HAD A DISTRICT ADVISORY COMMITTEE.

BUT I THINK WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE CALENDAR A LITTLE BIT LATER ON THE AGENDA.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAD A STRATEGIC ACTION PLANNING THE STUDENT AND STAFF WELLNESS COMMITTEE.

[00:35:01]

AND WE MET AND WE KIND OF JUST RECAPPED BECAUSE WE HAVE A LOT OF NEW MEMBERS THIS YEAR.

AND SO WE JUST RECAPPED WHAT KIND OF OUR BIGGEST CHALLENGES THAT STAFF IS FACING, BIGGEST CHALLENGES, HOW WE CAN.

WE DID A SURVEY.

SO KIND OF HOW WE CAN GO ABOUT THAT AND THEN REALLY TALKING ABOUT THE GIFT OF TIME, WHICH MAY HELP WHEN THE CALENDAR COMES OUT, THE GIFT OF TIME FOR OUR STAFF. AND THEN WE ALSO TALKED ABOUT LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES.

SO THAT'S WHAT WE'RE FOCUSING ON FOR OUR GOALS FOR YEAR TWO OUR LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS AND SOME OF THE LOWER GRADES IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND IN INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL.

EXCELLENT. THANK YOU TRUSTEE STACY.

ANY OTHER REPORTS PRESIDENT BRYAN I HAVE A REPORT.

WE HAD A STUDENT HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING, WHICH IS SHAC ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH IN THE MORNING.

[INAUDIBLE] OUR LEADER FOR THAT COMMITTEE KICK IT OFF.

WE HAD QUITE A FEW TOPICS TO COVER, BUT WE ONLY MADE IT THROUGH TWO OF THEM.

AND THE TWO TOPICS I THOUGHT THEY WERE VERY INTERESTING TOPICS.

BY THE WAY OUR COMMUNITY IS WELCOME TO COME TO OUR COMMITTEE MEETINGS AND LISTEN IN.

WE TALKED ABOUT SCREEN TIME.

SO MR. STUART AND MS. GILLIS BOTH WENT THROUGH KIND OF SOME OF THE RESOURCES THAT THE DISTRICT OFFERS.

AND FOR EVERYONE OUT THERE, THOSE RESOURCES ARE ONLINE ON THE CISD WEBSITE.

THE SECOND TOPIC WE COVERED WAS ON NUTRITION.

DANA DODGE MADE A BRIEF PRESENTATION.

SHE SHOWED US SOME OF THE NEW SCHOOL LUNCHES THAT ARE BEING OFFERED.

AND I HAVE TO SAY, THEY LOOK PRETTY TASTY.

I ESPECIALLY WAS INTERESTED IN AND I HAVEN'T TRIED IT YET, THE BLUE DRAGON TEA.

I WAS CURIOUS WHY IT'S NOT GREEN DRAGON TEA, BUT IT LOOKS PRETTY GOOD.

AND THERE WERE ALSO PROTEIN SHAKES.

I HAVEN'T HAD ONE OF THOSE EITHER.

I DID SEE THEM SERVING THEM ONE DAY, BUT THEY COME IN STRAWBERRY, PINEAPPLE AND MIXED BERRY.

YOU SHOULD MAKE YOUR WAY DOWN THERE TO GET ONE OF THE PROTEIN SHAKES.

AWESOME. ALL RIGHT, NO MORE LIMA BEANS, RIGHT? NO MORE LIMA BEANS. I'M NOT SURE IF THEY HAVE THOSE OR NOT, BUT THEY WEREN'T SHOWING THOSE IN THE PICTURES.

THERE IS SOME QUESTION, THOUGH, THAT CAME UP IN THAT AND THAT THE TACOS ARE BEING SERVED ON WEDNESDAY, SO WE'LL HAVE TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THAT.

ANY OTHER REPORTS FROM COMMITTEES? OKAY. THANK YOU, DR.

[8. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT]

LEDBETTER. WE'LL GO TO YOU NEXT WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.

THANK YOU, MR. BRYAN. AND TRUSTEES, JUST WANT TO START OFF JUST FIRST OF ALL, THANKING EVERYONE FOR THEIR SERVICE ON VETERANS DAY, LIKE YOU DID, TO REITERATE WHAT YOU STATED, BUT ALSO JUST TO CELEBRATE THE AMAZING PROGRAMS THAT EACH OF OUR CAMPUSES DID.

I THINK EACH OF US WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT TO A FEW OF THE CAMPUSES, BUT ALL OF THEM DID SOMETHING TO HONOR OUR VETERANS, SO IT WAS A GREAT DAY ACROSS THE DISTRICT ON FRIDAY.

I ALSO WANT JUST A FEW CELEBRATIONS HERE TO GO THROUGH VERY QUICKLY.

OUR ROBOTICS TEAMS TRAVELED TO GALVESTON THIS PAST WEEKEND.

THIS WAS AN ELITE TOURNAMENT THAT HOSTED 70 TEAMS FROM ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA, AND I'M PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THAT OUR TEAMS PERFORMED VERY WELL AND THEY WON THE FOLLOWING ACCOLADE.

FIRST OF ALL, WE HAD TEAM AND THIS IS THE WAY THEY NAME THE TEAM.

SO IT'S 7110H WAS THIS TEAM.

THIS WAS ROBOT.

THEY WERE THE ROBOT SKILLS CHAMPION WITH THE SCORE PLACING THEM FIRST IN TEXAS AND 11TH WORLDWIDE.

THEY WON THE BUILD AWARDS BASED ON ROBOT DESIGN AND BUILD ENGINEERING NOTEBOOK AND TEAM INTERVIEW.

THEY WERE THE TOURNAMENT FINALS FOR THAT AND THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS IS THIS WAS THE BEST PERFORMANCE BY CARROLL ROBOTICS TEAM AT AN EVENT OF THIS LEVEL IN PROGRAM HISTORY. SO CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR ROBOTICS TEAM FOR THAT ACCOMPLISHMENT.

THAT'S GREAT. YOU ALSO PROBABLY ARE VERY AWARE.

WE'VE HAD A LOT OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS FROM AN ATHLETIC STANDPOINT OVER THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS.

WE JUST RECENTLY WERE NOTIFIED THAT SEVEN OF OUR DRAGON SWIMMERS WERE SELECTED TO THE 20 23 SCHOLASTIC ALL-AMERICAN BY USA SWIMMING, SO WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE THEM.

ALSO, OUR BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM FINISHED IN FIRST PLACE AT THE STATE MEET, SO THEY WERE STATE CHAMPIONS.

THIS IS THEIR FIFTH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN A ROW AND GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY SECOND PLACE AT THE STATE MEET FOR THIS IS THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR, THE 14TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR THAT THE BOYS TEAM HAS FINISHED EITHER FIRST OR SECOND.

AND I COULD GO ON AND ON, BUT I WILL JUST TELL YOU THAT NEXT MONTH, IN DECEMBER, WE WILL BE RECOGNIZING BOTH OF THOSE TEAMS, SO YOU'LL HEAR MORE AND MORE ABOUT WHAT WENT ON WITH CROSS COUNTRY. BUT THAT'S GREAT.

IT WAS A GREAT WEEKEND, AND A COUPLE OF WEEKENDS AGO, VOLLEYBALL WAS KNOCKED OUT AT THE REGIONAL TOURNAMENT THIS PAST FRIDAY.

THEY HAD A GREAT SEASON. WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE THEM.

THEY WERE KNOCKED OUT IN THE REGION ONE SEMIFINAL GAME AGAINST PROSPER LAST FRIDAY.

AS YOU'RE PROBABLY AWARE, FOOTBALL CONTINUES TO MOVE THROUGH THE PLAYOFFS, SO THEY WILL BE IN THE SECOND ROUND OF PLAYOFFS THIS THURSDAY AT 6:30 AGAINST FRIENDSHIP.

AND THAT WILL BE AT ABILENE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY.

JUST A COUPLE OF UPDATES BEYOND CELEBRATIONS.

WANT TO MENTION THAT AS A BOARD I KNOW WE WE MOVED AWAY FROM TASB.

[00:40:04]

I WANT TO LET EVERYBODY KNOW THAT WE DID SIGN THE AGREEMENT WITH T WITH TEXANS FOR EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE.

AND SO ALL OF THE BENEFITS THAT WE REALLY HAD THROUGH TASB WITH HR SERVICES, COMPENSATION, REVIEW, INSURANCE, ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS, EMPLOYEE TRAININGS, TRUSTEE TRAINING, I MEAN WORKSHOPS, ALL THAT WILL NOW BE AVAILABLE THROUGH THAT ORGANIZATION.

I HAVE SIGNED THAT AND THEY HAVE WAIVED THE FEES FOR THIS FIRST YEAR.

SO THAT'S REALLY NOT COSTING US ANYTHING THIS FIRST YEAR.

SO I WANT TO MAKE THE BOARD AWARE OF THAT.

ALSO, WE HAVE OUR TEACHER AMBASSADOR COUNCIL MEETING, WHICH WILL BE ON DECEMBER 14TH.

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THIS WEEK, BUT DUE TO OUR FOOTBALL GAME THAT WILL BE MOVED TO THE WEEK AFTER ON DECEMBER THE 14TH, AND THEN WE ACKNOWLEDGE THE SUBSTITUTE.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT NOVEMBER THE 17TH, WHICH IS, IS THAT THIS THAT'S THIS FRIDAY IS ACTUALLY SUBSTITUTE APPRECIATION DAY.

SO CERTAINLY WANT TO THANK ALL OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS IN THIS COMMUNITY THAT HELP US WITH SUBSTITUTING.

WE COULD NOT MAKE IT WITHOUT YOU AND CERTAINLY WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO.

WE HAVE A COUPLE OF CEF EVENTS COMING UP.

THE DRAGONS ROCK TONIGHT ON THURSDAY NIGHT AND THEN GIVING TUESDAY ON NOVEMBER THE 29TH.

AND JUST REMEMBER THAT ALL OF THAT, THOSE DOLLARS COLLECTED ARE GOING TO GO TO A ONE TIME KIND OF SUPPLEMENTAL PAYMENT TO ALL OF OUR TEACHERS.

SO I THINK IT'S A GREAT I THINK WE'RE VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THAT.

AND CERTAINLY OUR TEACHERS AND OUR STAFF WOULD APPRECIATE ANYONE THAT CAN BE A PART OF THOSE AND CONTINUE TO GIVE TO THEM.

AND THE LAST ITEM I HAVE, MR. BRYAN, I KNOW I'M TRYING TO GET THROUGH THIS QUICKLY, BUT I WANT TO MENTION THAT THE LEGISLATURE IS MOVING INTO THEIR FOURTH SESSION, FOURTH SPECIAL SESSION, AND SO WE'RE STILL HOPEFUL THAT PUBLIC EDUCATION WILL COME OUT WITH SOME DOLLARS.

UNLIKE THE FIRST FEW SESSIONS THAT HAVE ENDED.

WE DID EDIT THE EMAIL.

THAT'S A PART OF OUR TAKE ACTION DRAGON.

SO I JUST ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO.

IF YOU'VE ALREADY SEEN IT PREVIOUSLY, PLEASE SEND IT AS PART OF THIS FOURTH LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

TAKE ACTION DRAGONS.COM.

WE MADE SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO IT TO IDENTIFY INCREASED COSTS RELATED TO UTILITIES, PROPERTY, INSURANCE, TRANSPORTATION AND FUEL.

WE TRIED TO GET A LITTLE MORE SPECIFIC WITH THAT.

WE ADDED A SECTION ON UNFUNDED MANDATES RELATED TO, FOR EXAMPLE, TECHNOLOGY RELATED TO STAAR.

WE CANNOT ADMINISTER STAAR WITHOUT HAVING DEVICES IN THE HANDS OF OUR KIDS OR WITHOUT HAVING TECHNOLOGY ACCESS FOR OUR STUDENTS.

WE TALKED ABOUT TEACHER RAISES, SAFETY AND SECURITY, AND THEN FUNDING OF SPECIAL EDUCATION.

AND THEN WE ADDED IN THERE HOPEFULLY A DESIRE WITH SOME FLEXIBILITY WITH STAAR TESTING WITH RESPECT TO WHETHER IT'S ON TECHNOLOGY OR PAPER TESTING.

SO WE WE DID ADD IN SOME THINGS TO MAKE IT A LITTLE MORE SPECIFIC AS OPPOSED TO WHAT WE HAVE BEEN SENDING.

SO PLEASE JUST CAN'T URGE YOU ENOUGH AS COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND STAFF, PLEASE GO ON AND SEND THAT LETTER AGAIN TO HOPEFULLY GENERATE SOME NOTICE FROM SOUTHLAKE AND CARROLL ISD THAT WE NEED ADDITIONAL FUNDS.

THAT'S ALL I HAVE, MR. BRYAN.

THANK YOU, DR. LEDBETTER.

IT TRULY DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO GET THOSE EMAILS IN OUR REPRESENTATIVES INBOXES, ANDREW AND I JUST RECEIVED THE OTHER DAY A TEXT FROM ONE OF OUR REPRESENTATIVES THAT SAID, HEY, LOOK, WE'VE HEARD WHAT YOU WANT.

WE WANT YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS ON PARTICULARLY HB ONE AND HB TWO.

AND IT WAS MAJOR PROGRESS, TRUSTEE YEAGER, OVER WHAT WE'VE SEEN IN THE PAST.

NOW, IS THAT GOING TO MOVE ITS WAY THROUGH, YOU KNOW, THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE? WHO KNOWS. BUT AT LEAST ON THE HOUSE SIDE, THAT WE'RE SEEING SOME MAJOR PROGRESS.

AND SPECIFICALLY WITH THE $540 BUMP TO BASIC ALLOTMENT, WHICH WAS VERY ENCOURAGING, AND SOME TEACHER RAISES PLUGGED IN THERE AS WELL.

SO KEEP ON SENDING THOSE EMAILS.

IT'S EFFECTIVE.

IT LETS OUR REPRESENTATIVES KNOW THAT WE CARE, AND WE HAVE A POSITION ON THE ISSUES AND THAT WE NEED FUNDING VERY, VERY BADLY.

AND THANK YOU ALSO, DR.

LEDBETTER, FOR MENTIONING THE T AGREEMENT.

THANK YOU FOR SIGNING THAT.

TRUSTEE YEAGER AND I WERE ABLE TO ATTEND A CONFERENCE THAT THEY PUT ON THIS WEEKEND.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THAT THEY ARE REALLY, YOU KNOW, BEING ABLE TO PROVIDE SOME OFFER SOME SERVICES THAT WE MAY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AT THIS POINT.

RIGHT NOW, IF EVERYONE REMEMBERS THAT THE THREE MAJOR SERVICES THAT WE USE FROM TASB WERE INSURANCE, POLICY UPDATES, AND OUR ONLINE AGENDA, WHICH WAS BOARD BOOK, AND WE'VE MOVED ON AND SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH DILIGENT COMMUNITY, WHICH IS A, WE BELIEVE, AN EQUIVALENT OR MAYBE EVEN A BETTER FORM OF WHAT WE WERE RECEIVING BEFORE IN TERMS OF BOARD BOOK.

WE WENT OUT WITH A SEPARATE RFP IF EVERYONE REMEMBERS FOR A BUNDLED INSURANCE.

SO WE WERE ONLY USING WHAT WORKER'S COMP, MR. JOHNSON AND GENERAL LIABILITY THROUGH TASB.

AND WE HAVE ABOUT 12 DIFFERENT TYPES OF INSURANCE TYPES.

SO WE BUNDLED ALL THOSE UP IN ONE RFP AND WE'VE AWARDED THAT ON OUR OWN.

AND THEN I THINK THAT THE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH T ON THE POLICY UPDATE WILL GIVE US AN OPPORTUNITY TO TRUST THE UPDATES THAT COME TO US, WITHOUT US SPEND AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF ATTORNEY'S FEES TO REVIEW FOR BIAS IN THOSE UPDATES.

SO ALL OF THE OTHER SERVICES THAT T OFFERS, WE WILL TAKE A LOOK AT AND SEE IF WE WANT TO.

[00:45:04]

IT'S ALL A LA CARTE.

SO WE CAN DETERMINE AS A DISTRICT WHETHER OR NOT AND AS A BOARD WHETHER OR NOT WE WANT TO USE THOSE SERVICES OR NOT.

BUT I JUST WANT TO REMIND THE COMMUNITY THAT WE HAVE HUNDREDS OF VENDORS, THAT WE HAVE EITHER AGREEMENTS OR INTER-LOCAL TYPE AGREEMENTS WITH ON THE BOOKS.

T IS JUST ONE VENDOR.

TASB IS JUST ANOTHER VENDOR.

OUR MEMBERSHIP WITH TASB ENDS AT THE END OF THIS CALENDAR YEAR, AND WE PASSED A RESOLUTION IN MARCH THAT SAID THAT AS A BOARD, WE INTEND NOT TO RENEW THAT MEMBERSHIP.

AND SO THAT IS EXPECTED AND WE'RE MAKING WE ASK THE DISTRICT TO RESEARCH AND LOOK FOR SERVICES THAT ARE COMPARABLE, IF NOT BETTER, ON THE FREE MARKET. AND, DR.

LEDBETTER, YOU HAVE DONE THAT, YOU AND YOUR STAFF, AND WE APPRECIATE THAT.

AND WE ARE MOVING ON.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT.

NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS OUR INFORMATION SECTION 9.1.

[9. INFORMATION]

CONSIDER 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR.

WE HAVE THREE DRAFT OPTIONS THIS YEAR AS OPPOSED TO ONE OPTION LAST YEAR SO MISS PEDDY.

THANK YOU, PRESIDENT BRYAN.

TRUSTEES DR.

LEDBETTER, I HAVE BROUGHT STACY GILLIS WITH ME TO GO OVER TO HELP ME DO THIS PRESENTATION.

SHE PLAYED A HUGE ROLE IN HELPING FORM THESE CALENDARS, AND SO I WOULD LIKE HER HERE TO HELP ME AS WE GO THROUGH IT.

IT IS A HUGE, HUGE UNDERTAKING TO TO TRY TO COME UP WITH CALENDARS.

I JOKINGLY TOLD DR.

LEDBETTER THAT WE WERE GOING TO PRESENT 28 OF THEM TO YOU.

[LAUGHTER] SO WE'VE TRIED TO LISTEN TO WHAT EVERYONE WANTED, AND WE'VE TRIED TO MAKE IT AS CONCISE AND AS MAKE MAKE IT MAKE THE MOST SENSE AS POSSIBLE.

SO ARE WE READY TO GET STARTED? OKAY. ALL RIGHT.

WE BEGAN WITH OUR DAC MEETING.

OUR VERY FIRST DAC MEETING WE WERE WE WERE ASKED TO COME UP WITH TO TALK TO DAC EACH OF, OKAY, MOST OF THE SCHOOLS HAVE A DAC COMMITTEE MEMBER.

ALL OF THE SCHOOLS HAVE A DAC CALENDAR COMMITTEE REP, SO ALL SCHOOLS ARE REPRESENTED WHENEVER WE GO INTO THE CALENDAR COMMITTEE GROUP.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THAT UP FRONT.

WHEN WE MET WITH THE COMMITTEE, WE TALKED ABOUT SOME NON-NEGOTIABLES.

AND AS YOU WILL SEE, THESE ARE SOME OF THE NON-NEGOTIABLES.

WHAT THEY WANTED WAS WE WANTED TO BE SURE THAT WE HAD THE MOST EVEN AMOUNT OF INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS IN EACH SEMESTER.

THIS WAS PRIMARILY FOR OUR SECONDARY, OUR ONE SEMESTER COURSES.

IT'S VERY CHALLENGING IF WE HAVE 75 DAYS IN THE FIRST SEMESTER AND 90 DAYS IN THE SECOND SEMESTER, SO IT WAS IMPORTANT TO US THAT WE GET AS CLOSE TO BEING BALANCED AS POSSIBLE.

THAT IS IMPORTANT THAT I NOTE BECAUSE WHEN YOU SEE SOME OF THESE START DATES, THAT'S WHY YOU HAVE TO START EARLIER, IS IF YOU'RE GOING TO TRY TO GET A BALANCE LIKE THAT.

WE WANTED TO HAVE SOME BUILT IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS FOR CURRICULUM ALIGNMENT AS PER THE STRATEGIC PLAN.

WE STARTED THE I ALIGN DAYS REALLY THIS YEAR.

I MEAN, WE STARTED THEM LAST YEAR, BUT WE'VE REALLY LAST YEAR WAS OUR GUINEA PIG YEAR.

WE DIDN'T REALLY KNOW WHAT WE WERE DOING.

WE'VE GOTTEN MUCH BETTER AT IT.

AND SO WHAT'S HAPPENING IS DURING OUR I ALIGN DAYS, WE WILL VERTICALLY ALIGN DURING IN THE MORNING AND THEN IN THE AFTERNOON WE HORIZONTALLY ALIGN ON OUR CAMPUSES.

SO IT IS ALLOWING OUR STAFF MORE TIME BOTH VERTICALLY WITH THE PEOPLE THAT ARE THE GRADE LEVELS ABOVE AND BENEATH THEM AND HORIZONTALLY WITH THEIR OWN TEAMMATES.

WE HAVE SEEN OUR PD SURVEYS ARE COMING BACK VERY FAVORABLE IN THAT AREA.

SO WE FEEL LIKE THAT'S A GOOD THING FOR THEM.

WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS IN THAT AREA IN THE SCHOOL YEAR, OKAY.

IN THE FIRST SEMESTER, PRIOR TO THE WINTER BREAK, IN THE SCHOOL YEAR, PRIOR TO MEMORIAL DAY, ENSURE STATE REQUIRED 187 STAFF CONTRACT DAYS.

ENSURE THE STATE REQUIRED 75,600 STUDENT INSTRUCTIONAL MINUTES.

WE WANTED A WEEK AT THANKSGIVING, A MINIMUM OF TWO WEEKS FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS FOR THE WINTER BREAK, ONE WEEK FOR SPRING BREAK, AND THEN WE NEEDED TO HAVE TWO BUILT IN WEATHER DAYS.

SO THOSE WERE OUR NON-NEGOTIABLES.

SO AS WE GO THROUGH THESE CALENDARS, YOU NEED TO KEEP THOSE IN MIND, BECAUSE THAT'S HOW WE CAME UP WITH WHAT WE CAME UP WITH.

ALL RIGHT. SOME ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS.

WE DID TALK TO SOME SURROUNDING DISTRICTS.

UNFORTUNATELY, RIGHT NOW THERE ARE VERY FEW DISTRICTS THAT HAVE THEY ARE IN THE SAME PROCESS.

WE ARE THEY ARE WORKING ON THEM EVEN AS WE SPEAK.

SO WE HEAR ABOUT IT THROUGH WORD OF MOUTH.

AND WE ARE CHECKING ON LOOKING AT SOME OF THE DISTRICTS TO SEE HOW MANY MINUTES THEY HAVE.

[00:50:06]

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THESE CALENDARS, YOU WILL NOTICE THAT THERE'S A VARIATION IN WHAT THE SCHOOL AMOUNT OF TIME.

SOME WILL HAVE 440 MINUTES AND SOME WILL HAVE 450 MINUTES.

SO YOU'VE GOT THAT AS A POINT AS WELL.

AND THEN FOR OUR DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS, WE DID WANT TO ALIGN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE WITH TARRANT COUNTY COLLEGE WITH THEIR DUAL CREDIT.

SO I MEAN WITH THEIR SPRING BREAK.

SO THOSE WERE THINGS THAT WE TOOK INTO CONSIDERATION AS WELL.

AND TARRANT COUNTY DID SAY THAT THEIRS WOULD BE THE THIRD WEEK.

SO I THINK ALL THE AREA SCHOOL DISTRICTS ARE PUTTING THEIR SPRING BREAK AS BEING THAT THIRD WEEK.

ALL RIGHT SO AFTER WE DID AFTER WE HAD OUR MEETING, WE GOT FEEDBACK.

WE CREATED, WE CREATED SOME CALENDARS.

WE SENT THOSE CALENDARS OUT TO THE TO THE CALENDAR COMMITTEE MEMBERS, AND WE ASKED THEM TO SPEAK TO THEIR STAFF ABOUT THESE.

LET THEM KNOW WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT? WHAT DO YOU THINK? TELL US WHERE.

WHERE YOU LIKE SOME THINGS.

WHERE YOU DIDN'T LIKE SOME THINGS.

AFTER WE HAD THOSE MEETINGS, THEN WE RECEIVED SOME FEEDBACK.

OKAY. WE DECIDED TO GO AHEAD.

AFTER WE RECEIVED SOME FEEDBACK, WE RECEIVED SOME FEEDBACK THAT SOME THERE WAS SOME MISUNDERSTANDINGS IN SOME AREAS.

SO WE DECIDED, ALL RIGHT, LET'S DO A SURVEY JUST TO MAKE SURE.

SO WE DID A SURVEY.

STACY DID A GREAT JOB WITH THE SURVEY.

WE DID A SURVEY AND WE GOT 453 RESPONSES.

WE WERE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

WE DON'T NORMALLY GET THAT MANY RESPONSES.

SO WE WERE WE WERE PRETTY THRILLED AND I MIGHT ADD LIKE AS SOON AS STACY SENT IT AT FIVE MINUTES LATER, THEY WERE ON A ROLL.

SO THEY OBVIOUSLY WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAD INPUT IN THE CALENDAR.

ALL RIGHT. SO THE FIRST ITEM THAT THEY REALLY WANT, THEY WERE VERY ADAMANT ABOUT THE ELEMENTARY GRADES.

THEY WANTED THOSE THE TESTING DAYS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR TO BE BACK TO THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL.

LAST YEAR, WHEN WE WERE LOOKING AT THE CALENDAR, WE HAD SOME THOUGHTS THAT THE FIRST WEEK MAYBE WASN'T THE BEST WEEK.

KIDS ARE JUST GETTING BACK INTO THE SCHOOL MODE.

UM, YOU KNOW, THEY PROBABLY HAVEN'T STUDIED A LOT OVER THE SUMMER BREAK, SO MAYBE IF WE DELAYED IT AND WE WENT TILL AFTER LABOR DAY, THEN WE WOULD HAVE A BETTER PICTURE OF WHERE OUR STUDENTS WERE.

UM, THAT DID NOT WORK AS WE HAD THOUGHT IT WOULD.

SO WHAT HAPPENED WAS WE HAD WE INTERRUPTED OUR INSTRUCTIONAL MINUTES AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR AND AFTER THAT.

SO THEY WERE VERY ADAMANT AND MAKING SURE THAT WE MOVE THOSE HALF DAYS TO THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

AND WE HAVE ACCOMMODATED THAT.

THEY DID WANT THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL ENDING BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY, THE WINTER BREAK.

AND THEN WE HAD A QUESTION ON THE SURVEY THAT SAID, ADDING TEN MINUTES TO ALLOW FOR AN ADDITION OF A STUDENT FALL BREAK AND TEACHER WORK DAYS AFTER EACH GRADING PERIOD.

THIS WAS A NEW PHILOSOPHY FOR US.

WE HAVE NOT HAD A FULL STUDENT, A FULL STUDENT FALL BREAK IN OCTOBER.

THEY'VE GOT A FRIDAY AND A MONDAY, BUT WE HAVEN'T HAD THE FULL BREAK THERE FOR THE STUDENTS.

WE ALSO WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAD WORK DAYS FOR OUR TEACHERS.

OUR TEACHERS HAVE SAID THAT IT'S IMPORTANT AT THE END OF EACH GRADING PERIOD, THEY WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HAVE TIME TO KIND OF WIND DOWN THAT NINE WEEKS GRADING PERIOD AND THEN GET READY FOR THE NEXT WEEKS, THE NEXT NINE WEEK GRADING PERIOD.

SO AS YOU CAN SEE, BASED UPON THE SURVEY, 60% SAID YES, 32% SAID NO, AND 8% HAD NO NO PREFERENCE ON THAT.

ADDING FIVE MINUTES FOR AN ADDITION OF TEACHER WORK DAYS AT THE END OF EACH GRADING PERIOD, YOU HAD 61 YES 24 NO, 15 HAD NO PREFERENCE.

IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE TIME OFF IN FEBRUARY? OCTOBER AND FEBRUARY APPEAR TO BE THE MONTHS THAT ARE THE TOUGHEST FOR US.

WE REALLY NEED BREAKS DURING OCTOBER AND FEBRUARY, SO IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE TIME OFF IN FEBRUARY, 65% SAID THAT, 14% SAID NO, 21 HAD NO PREFERENCE.

IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE AT LEAST ONE DAY OFF OR A HOLIDAY PER MONTH? 74 SAID ABSOLUTELY YES, 9% SAID NO AND 17% SAID NO PREFERENCE.

SO AS YOU CAN SEE, WE RECEIVED SOME SOME VERY GOOD FEEDBACK BASED UPON OUR SURVEY.

SO BASED UPON THOSE SURVEYS, I'M GOING TO GO THROUGH EACH OF THESE OPTIONS WITH YOU AND KIND OF HIGHLIGHT SOME OF THE MAJOR POINTS THAT YOU'LL SEE. SO OPTION ONE WE CONSIDER THIS MORE OF OUR TRADITIONAL CALENDAR.

ALL RIGHT. THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT WE HAD THIS YEAR.

OUR TEACHERS WOULD START ON AUGUST.

THAT NEW HIRE TRAINING WOULD WOULD START JULY 30TH THROUGH AUGUST 1ST.

[00:55:02]

SO ALL OF OUR NEW HIRES, THAT'S ABOUT THE SAME TIME THAT WE HAD IT THIS YEAR.

OUR STAFF WOULD RETURN ON AUGUST THE 5TH.

WE WOULD HAVE TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AS WELL AS A TEACHER WORK DAY.

I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY AND A TEACHER WORK DAY.

A STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY IS A LEARNING DAY, SO WE TRY TO GO OVER WITH OUR STAFF IF WE HAVE NEW RESOURCES, IF WE'VE UPDATED THE GRADING GUIDELINES OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, WE TRY TO USE THOSE DAYS TO GO OVER THAT.

WE ALSO TRY TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR STAFF HAS TIME DURING THAT TIME TO WORK WITH THEIR COLLEAGUES AND THEIR PEERS SO THAT THEY UNDERSTAND ANY OF THE CHANGES THAT HAVE TAKEN PLACE. A TEACHER WORK DAY IS JUST THAT.

IT IS A TEACHER WORK DAY.

NOTHING SHOULD BE GOING ON FOR THAT DAY.

THE TEACHER SHOULD HAVE THAT ENTIRE DAY TO WORK ON WHAT THEY NEED TO WORK ON.

SO THAT WAS A BIG THING.

WHENEVER YOU SAW IN THE SURVEY THAT TEACHERS REALLY WANTED THAT WORK DAY, THAT THAT CAN BE USED FOR A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS, AND THEY WERE APPRECIATIVE OF THAT.

ALL RIGHT. SO IF YOU SEE SCHOOL WOULD START ON OUR TRADITIONAL CALENDAR OF A MORE WHEN IT STARTS ON AUGUST THE 13TH, WHICH IS ON A TUESDAY, THAT WAS FEEDBACK THAT WE ALSO RECEIVED.

THEY REALLY WANT TO START ON A TUESDAY SO THAT YOUR, YOUR HIGH SCHOOL AND YOUR SENIOR HIGH CAN HAVE TWO A DAYS AND TO BE DAYS BEFORE GETTING REALLY INTO THE INTO THE SCHOOL YEAR IN SEPTEMBER.

WE HAVE LABOR DAY AS A HOLIDAY.

IN FEBRUARY ON OCTOBER 11TH AND 14TH THAT'S THOSE ARE STUDENT HOLIDAYS.

THE 11TH WOULD BE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY FOR OUR STAFF, BECAUSE THAT IS THE ENDING OF THE FIRST GRADING PERIOD.

AND THEN THE 14TH WOULD BE A HOLIDAY FOR EVERYONE.

THEN NOVEMBER 25TH THROUGH THE 29TH WOULD BE OUR THANKSGIVING BREAK.

OUR DECEMBER BREAK WOULD BE DECEMBER 19TH THROUGH THE 20TH.

THAT WOULD BE OUR EARLY RELEASE FOR OUR GRADES 5 THROUGH 12.

THE REASON THAT WE DON'T HAVE ANY, ANY CONCERNS WITH OUR MINUTES IS BECAUSE OUR GRADES 5 THROUGH 12 HAVE THEIR MINUTES TAKEN DURING MIDTERM AND FINALS, AS OPPOSED TO OUR ELEMENTARIES THAT HAVE TAKEN THEIR HALF DAYS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

SO DECEMBER 23RD THROUGH JANUARY 6TH WOULD BE A WINTER BREAK FOR ALL.

JANUARY 7TH WOULD BE A STUDENT HOLIDAY, BUT IT WOULD BE A TEACHER WORK DAY, SO THEY WOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CLOSE UP ONE SEMESTER AND GET READY FOR THE SECOND SEMESTER.

AND THEN JANUARY 8TH WOULD BE THE BEGINNING OF THAT GRADING PERIOD.

JANUARY 20TH WOULD BE A HOLIDAY FOR ALL.

FEBRUARY 17TH IS A STUDENT HOLIDAY WITH A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

AGAIN, THAT'S THE THAT'S GETTING THAT'S HELPING OUR TEACHERS GET SOME ADDITIONAL TRAINING.

MARCH 13TH IS THE END OF THE GRADING PERIOD.

MARCH 14TH IS A BAD WEATHER DAY.

THEN WE HAVE OUR WEEK FOR SPRING BREAK ON APRIL THE 18TH.

WE HAVE A STUDENT HOLIDAY AND THEN WE HAVE ANOTHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY, WHICH IS THE ENDING OF A GRADING PERIOD FOR OUR STAFF.

APRIL 21ST WOULD BE A BAD WEATHER DAY.

MAY 21ST AND 22ND WOULD BE EARLY RELEASE FOR GRADES 5 THROUGH 12.

MAY 23RD WOULD BE A TEACHER WORK DATE THAT IS ALSO OUR GRADUATION.

SO WE TRY TO KEEP THINGS AS AS CONSISTENT AS POSSIBLE THERE AND THEN MAY 26TH WOULD BE A HOLIDAY.

SO THAT IS OUR THAT'S OUR FIRST IF YOU WILL ALSO NOTICE AT THE BOTTOM.

IT SAYS THE FIRST SEMESTER INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS WOULD BE 86 VERSUS THE SECOND SEMESTER INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS, WHICH WOULD BE 87.

SO THEY'RE VERY CLOSELY ALIGNED FOR OUR FIRST SEMESTER COURSES THAT OUR SEMESTER COURSES.

ALL RIGHT. OPTION TWO IS VERY SIMILAR TO OPTION ONE.

HOWEVER, IT IS ADDING FIVE MINUTES TO THE SCHOOL DAY, WHICH WOULD PROVIDE TEACHERS WITH THE TEACHER WORK DAY AT THE END OF EACH GRADING PERIOD.

SO THE STARTING OF SCHOOL WOULD BE IDENTICALLY THE SAME.

THE NEW HIRE TRAINING WOULD BE THE SAME.

THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TEACHER WORK DAY WOULD BE THE SAME.

THE STARTING OF THE DAY OF SCHOOL, FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL WOULD BE THE SAME.

SEPTEMBER IS STILL THE SAME.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT OCTOBER, THAT'S WHEN THINGS START CHANGING A LITTLE BIT.

WE WOULD HAVE A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOLLOWED BY A TEACHER WORK DAY.

SO STUDENTS WOULD HAVE WOULD HAVE THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY OFF, THEY WOULD HAVE THE TEACHER WORK DAY OFF, AND THEN THEY WOULD HAVE THAT FOLLOWING MONDAY OFF AS WELL. OUR TEACHERS IN OCTOBER WOULD HAVE THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, BUT THEN THEY WOULD HAVE THEIR TEACHER WORK DAY AND THAT WOULD BE FOLLOWED BY A HOLIDAY FOR

[01:00:01]

THEM. NOVEMBER IS THE SAME AS IT WAS IN CALENDAR 1.

DECEMBER YOU HAVE YOUR TWO HALF DAYS AGAIN AND THEN YOU HAVE YOUR WINTER BREAK.

IF YOU NOTICE THAT WHAT WE HAVE DONE AGAIN IS WE'VE HAD WE GO THROUGH THE BREAK GOES THROUGH THE SIXTH AND THEN WE HAVE A TEACHER WORK DAY.

WHEN THE TEACHERS COME BACK, THAT GIVES THEM TIME TO AGAIN FINISH OUT ONE SEMESTER TO BEGIN THE SECOND SEMESTER, FEBRUARY, WE HAVE A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY, MARCH FOR OUR SPRING BREAK.

WE HAVE A BAD WEATHER DAY, THEN WE HAVE OUR ENTIRE SPRING BREAK AND THEN WE HAVE A TEACHER WORK DAY.

SO THAT'S A LITTLE BIT OF AN EXTENDED SPRING BREAK FOR OUR STUDENTS, DEFINITELY.

AND COULD BE FOR FOR OUR TEACHERS.

EXCEPT FOR THE WORK DAY IN APRIL, WE HAVE A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY AND A BAD WEATHER DAY.

SO WE'VE GOT SOME BREAKS IN THERE.

AND THEN MAY IS EXACTLY LIKE WHAT WE HAD BEFORE.

IF YOU'LL TAKE A LOOK, WE'VE GOT A SLIGHT CHANGE IN THE NUMBER OF INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS.

WE STILL HAVE 86 FOR FIRST SEMESTER.

WE HAVE 88 FOR THE SECOND SEMESTER.

AND THEN FINALLY OUR THIRD OPTION.

OUR THIRD OPTION IS ADDING TEN MINUTES TO THE SCHOOL DAY, WHICH WOULD PROVIDE TEACHERS WITH TWO ADDITIONAL TEACHER WORKDAYS AS WELL AS A FALL BREAK IN OCTOBER.

THE FALL BREAK WOULD BE WOULD WOULD BE A FULL FALL BREAK FOR OUR STUDENTS, AND IT WOULD BE NOT QUITE A FULL WEEK FOR OUR TEACHERS. SO AGAIN, IN OPTION THREE, YOU'VE STILL GOT YOUR THE BEGINNING OF THE AUGUST IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS WHAT IT'S BEEN IN THE OTHERS, EXCEPT WE HAVE A TEACHER WORKDAY ON AUGUST THE 2ND, SO WE COME BACK ON A FRIDAY BEFORE WE WOULD NORMALLY COME BACK ON A MONDAY.

SO THAT WOULD BE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT.

BUT A LOT OF TIMES, ESPECIALLY IN THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST, OUR TEACHERS ARE ALREADY COMING BACK TO THEIR CAMPUSES.

THEY'RE ALREADY TRYING TO GET THEIR ROOMS ARRANGED AND GETTING TO GETTING SOME OF THEIR STUFF ORGANIZED AND THAT KIND OF STUFF.

BUT THAT WOULD BE A DIFFERENCE FOR THE AUGUST.

SEPTEMBER IS IDENTICALLY THE SAME.

OCTOBER, OCTOBER HAS A THE STUDENTS WOULD HAVE THE ENTIRE WEEK OFF.

THE TEACHERS WOULD HAVE A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY FOLLOWED BY A TEACHER WORKDAY.

AND THEN THEY WOULD HAVE THREE DAYS OFF.

FOR NOVEMBER THAT'S IDENTICALLY THE SAME.

DECEMBER IS THE SAME.

JANUARY WE WOULD THE TEACHERS WOULD HAVE A WORK DAY ON THE 6TH AND SCHOOL WOULD START BACK ON THE 7TH FEBRUARY.

THERE IS THAT BUILT IN PD DAY MARCH FOR SPRING BREAK WE WOULD HAVE THE BAD WEATHER DAY.

YOU WOULD HAVE THE WHOLE WEEK OF SPRING BREAK, AND THEN THE TEACHERS WOULD COME BACK AND HAVE A TEACHER WORKDAY AGAIN.

APRIL, YOU HAVE YOUR PD DAY AND YOUR BAD WEATHER DAY.

AND THEN MAY IS IS YOU HAVE YOUR YOUR HALF DAYS FOR YOUR HIGH SCHOOLS.

AND THEN YOU HAVE YOUR GRADES 5 THROUGH 12.

AND THEN YOU HAVE YOUR TEACHER WORK DAY WITH YOUR HOLIDAY WITH US GETTING OUT BEFORE.

SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT THAT ON THE NUMBER OF INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS FOR OPTION THREE, YOU HAVE 83 FOR THE FIRST SEMESTER AND YOU HAVE 87 FOR THE SECOND. SEMESTER.

OKAY. SO WHAT IS THIS GOING TO LOOK LIKE IF WE ADDED MINUTES TO THE DAY.

RIGHT NOW IF YOU WILL LOOK OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, THE CURRENT SCHEDULE THAT WE HAVE FOR OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, WE DID NOT AS WE WERE MAKING OUR TIME SCHEDULES, WE DID NOT BUILD IN TRANSITION TIMES.

SO WE GO FROM ELA TO MATH TO SOCIAL STUDIES TO SCIENCE.

THERE HAS TO BE A TRANSITION.

THERE'S JUST NO WAY THAT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO.

SO BY ADDING THE EXTRA TIME THAT WOULD BUILD IN THE TRANSITION TIME THAT WE NEED FOR THOSE PROGRAMS. SECONDARY ALL OF THE SCHEDULES WOULD HAVE THE TIME ADDED AT THE END OF THE DAY.

SO BASED UPON OUR THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS AFTER THIS MEETING, WE WOULD LIKE TO SEND OUT A SURVEY TO OUR COMMUNITY, AND WE WOULD LIKE TO SEND OUT ANOTHER SURVEY TO OUR STAFF JUST TO ENSURE THAT EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS WE ARE SEEKING INPUT JUST BECAUSE WE PUT THESE THREE TOGETHER, DOES IT MEAN THAT SOMEONE ELSE DOESN'T HAVE A BETTER OPTION OR A BETTER PLAN? AND WE ARE MORE THAN WILLING TO LISTEN TO THAT.

BUT WE DID COME FORWARD WITH THREE CALENDARS THAT WE FEEL LIKE MEETS THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR STAFF.

AND SO ANYWAY, WE WILL NOW OPEN IT UP FOR QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS.

[01:05:03]

THANK YOU, MISS PEDDY, FOR THIS PRESENTATION.

IT'S VERY INFORMATIONAL.

BEFORE I OPEN IT UP, I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT SO WHEN WE SEND OUT THE PARENT SURVEY AND THE STAFF SURVEY, HOW LONG IS THAT OPEN FOR? WHEN DOES IT OPEN. WHEN DOES IT CLOSE.

WHEN DO WE GET RESULTS? WE COULD TALK ABOUT THAT.

I MEAN WE ARE READY TO GO NOW.

WE COULD SEND IT OUT BASED UPON IF WE NEED TO MAKE ANY CHANGES AFTER TONIGHT'S MEETING, WE COULD SEND IT OUT BY WE COULD SEND IT OUT TOMORROW.

AND I WOULD SAY SOME OF THE COMMUNITY FEEDBACK THAT I HAVE RECEIVED IS THEY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE THE VOTING PRIOR TO THE WINTER BREAK BECAUSE THEY WILL BE GONE DURING WINTER BREAK, AND THEY WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAD INPUT.

I FEEL LIKE OUR STAFF WOULD WANT SOMETHING VERY SIMILAR TO THAT.

ONCE THEY GO ON BREAK.

THEY'D RATHER GO AHEAD AND HAVE THEIR VOICES HEARD PRIOR TO THAT TIME.

SO WHEN THIS SURVEY COMES OUT, ARE THEY JUST GOING TO SEE THE ACTUAL CALENDAR AND NOT HAVE AN EXPLANATION OF THIS, OR HOW IS THAT GOING TO WORK? I'LL LET STACY GO OVER THAT.

OKAY, SO THE SCREENSHOT THAT IS NEXT TO THE LINKS OF THE SURVEYS.

THE SURVEYS ARE TURNED OFF RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE DIDN'T WANT PEOPLE JUMPING IN JUST YET.

RIGHT. SO IT HAS THE BLURB AT THE TOP AND WHERE IT SAYS DRAFT CALENDAR OPTIONS.

THAT ACTUALLY LINKS TO THE EXPLANATION THAT MISS PEDDY GAVE TO YOU GUYS, AS WELL AS EACH OF THOSE.

SO THEY WILL HAVE AN EXPLANATION OF EXACTLY WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING AT FOR ALL THREE OPTIONS.

OKAY, SO I KNOW TWO YEARS AGO WHEN WE SENT THE PARENT AND STAFF SURVEYS OUT, WE'VE GOT A VERY MINIMAL AMOUNT OF RESPONSES.

IN FACT, I THINK WITH STAFF IT WAS LESS THAN 20%, WHICH IS NOT A REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLING.

AND PARENTS WAS SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THAT OR EVEN LESS SO I GUESS THOSE PARENTS AND STAFF THAT ARE LISTENING TONIGHT, THIS BOARD WILL SERIOUSLY CONSIDER SURVEY RESULTS, BUT WE HAVE TO HAVE A REPRESENTATIVE SAMPLING IN ORDER TO MAKE THAT DETERMINATION.

AND IT WAS VERY ENCOURAGING, MISS PEDDY, THAT WE SAW THAT 450 SOMETHING TEACHERS ACTUALLY RESPONDED TO THIS INITIAL SURVEY OUT OF WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY 600. SO WE REALLY WANT TO LOOK AT THAT THOSE NUMBERS AGAIN TO REALLY SEE WHAT THE MAJORITY OF OUR STAFF, THE MAJORITY OF OUR TEACHERS REALLY ARE LOOKING FOR.

AND IF THERE'S AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE FOR ONE OPTION OR THE ANOTHER, I CAN'T IMAGINE OUR BOARD NOT SERIOUSLY PUTTING A LOT OF WEIGHT TO THAT CONSIDERATION.

OKAY, I'LL OPEN IT UP FOR QUESTIONS.

YEAH, I HAVE ONE QUESTION.

IT CAME FROM A PARENT, AND I HAVEN'T HAD A LOT OF PEOPLE REACH OUT TO ME REGARDING THIS, BUT I'M VERY GLAD THAT PRESIDENT BRYAN, YOU TALKED ABOUT THAT BECAUSE WE GOT PUSHBACK.

BUT IT WAS ONE OF THESE AFTER THE FACTS, WE DIDN'T GET ANY YOU KNOW, WE GOT VERY LOW RESPONSE RATES.

BUT SO FAR I'VE HEARD FRANKLY MORE FROM ADMINISTRATORS, PRINCIPALS, WHICH IS GREAT.

SO PARENTS SPEAK UP AND THIS IS YOUR CHANCE.

ONE PARENT ASKED A QUESTION THAT I THOUGHT WAS WORTHY OF BRINGING TONIGHT, AND THAT WAS THAT BREAK IN OCTOBER.

THEIR CONCERN IS THAT IT TAKES KIDDOS A WHILE, MAYBE A DAY OR TWO TO KIND OF AFTER, ESPECIALLY IF THEY'VE BEEN ON A, YOU KNOW, A VACATION TO KIND OF GET BACK IN THE MOOD AND OF STUDYING.

AND I'M JUST CURIOUS IF THERE'S ANY RESEARCH OR ANY YOU'VE HEARD FROM TEACHERS THAT SAY THAT, BECAUSE THAT, TO ME IS LIKE THE BIGGEST CHANGE OF THESE SCHEDULES, IS THAT FULL LONG BREAK IN OCTOBER.

BECAUSE IT'S ONLY A WEEK.

WE DON'T FEEL LIKE.

I MEAN, THERE COULD BE SOME DECLINE.

YES, BUT IT WON'T.

IT WON'T. THERE WOULD NOT.

STUDIES HAVE NOT SHOWN THAT.

IT'S A GREAT AMOUNT WHEN IT'S A WEEK THAT YOU'RE TALKING.

OKAY. AND OUR STAFF, OUR STAFF, WHENEVER WE WENT OVER THIS WITH THEM AND REMEMBER WE HAD ELEMENTARY PEOPLE IN.

SO THEY KNEW THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR VERSUS THREE WEEKS IN WHAT ARE WE GOING TO SEE.

AND THEY STILL WANTED TO GO AHEAD AND STAY WITH THE TO HAVE THAT AT LEAST AS AN OPTION.

OKAY. THE TCC THIRD WEEK OF MARCH, I HAD KIDS GO TO UT A&M, RIGHT.

AUBURN THAT I DON'T EVER REMEMBER MY KIDS HAVING A BREAK THAT LATE.

SO USUALLY CARROLL, WE'VE BEEN WITH EITHER YOU KNOW A&M, UT, YOU KNOW IT'S USUALLY BEEN THE SECOND EARLIER IN THE MONTH.

SO THAT SEEMS TO ME TO BE KIND OF AN ODD.

YEAH AN ODD TIME.

JUST CURIOUS IF YOU'VE BEEN LOOKING AT THE UNIVERSITIES RELEASED THOSE SPRING BREAKS IN TEXAS PRETTY EARLY.

WE HAVE ONLY LOOKED AT TCC SINCE THAT'S WHERE THE MAJORITY OF OUR, OUR DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS ARE ATTENDING.

BUT WE CAN CERTAINLY LOOK AT THE OTHERS.

OKAY. THANK YOU, MISS PEDDY.

YES, I HAVE ONE QUESTION.

WILL THE PARENTS BE ABLE TO SEE THE RESULTS OF THE STAFF SURVEY TO SEE WHAT THE TEACHERS AND STAFF PREFER BEFORE THEY MAKE THEIR DECISION?

[01:10:09]

WE COULD RELEASE. WE COULD RELEASE THAT? SURE. I MEAN, WE HIT SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS FOR YOU IN THIS PRESENTATION, BUT ABSOLUTELY, WE COULD RELEASE THAT.

AND THAT'S A REALLY GOOD POINT.

TRUSTEE [INAUDIBLE] BECAUSE I THINK THAT PARENTS REALLY WANT TO SUPPORT OUR TEACHERS AND REALLY WANT TO SUPPORT WHAT OUR TEACHERS THINK.

SHOULD THE CALENDAR BE TO SUPPORT OUR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE.

SO ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT MAYBE A STAGGERED TYPE SURVEY? I THINK THE PARENTS WOULD LIKE TO SEE, WELL, WHAT DO THE TEACHERS WANT THAT MAY WEIGH ON THEIR DECISION? TO YOUR POINT, THEY WANT TO SUPPORT WHAT THE TEACHERS WANT.

OKAY. SO I THINK IT WOULD BE GOOD INFORMATION FOR THEM TO HAVE WHEN THEY'RE WHEN THEY'RE FILLING OUT THEIR SURVEY.

RIGHT. WE COULD ALSO LINK THIS PRESENTATION IN THE FORM.

SO IF PARENTS AREN'T WATCHING THE BOARD MEETING THEY WOULD HAVE ACCESS TO THE SLIDES AT LEAST AND SEE THOSE CONSIDERATIONS.

I MEAN WHAT ARE THE OTHER TRUSTEES THINK ON THIS ISSUE? I THINK IT'S VERY IMPORTANT.

I THINK IT'S A REALLY GOOD GOOD POINT THAT WE SURVEY THE STAFF FIRST.

I MEAN, WE'RE NOT LIKE ON A TIME CRUNCH HERE.

SO WE SURVEY THE STAFF FIRST AND THEN WE SEND OUT THE RESULTS OF THAT STAFF SURVEY TO THE PARENTS.

I DON'T KNOW, IT SEEMS. I GUESS MY I MEAN, I THINK THAT WOULD BE INTERESTING, BUT I ALSO THINK IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT THEY'RE SAYING.

AND WHAT ARE THEIR TRUE DESIRES? I COULD SEE IT BOTH WAYS.

AND I THINK THE STUDENTS WILL ALSO HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION.

PRESIDENT BRYAN, I'D LIKE TO UNPACK IT JUST A LITTLE BIT.

SO ON THE DAC COMMITTEE, IT'S IT'S MAINLY PRINCIPALS APS AND TEACHERS.

AND THE MAJORITY OF THAT ROOM REALLY WANTS THAT OCTOBER BREAK.

AND I KNOW THAT WHEN THEY WENT AHEAD, THE PRINCIPALS DID THE SURVEYS WITH THEIR STAFF AND THE ONES THAT REPLIED, THE MAJORITY WANT THAT OCTOBER BREAK.

AND I THINK THE REALITY IS A LOT OF FAMILIES GO ON VACATION THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE YEAR, AND SO THEY'RE TRYING TO GIVE THE FAMILIES AN A DESIGNATED TIME TO DO THAT, BECAUSE ATTENDANCE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM.

AND I KNOW AS OF LAST YEAR, IT LOOKED LIKE WE LOST $3.2 MILLION IN FUNDING DUE TO VACATIONS.

AND SO I KNOW THEY'RE REALLY TRYING TO GET A HANDLE ON THAT, BUT IT JUST SEEMED LIKE THE MAJORITY OF TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS WERE VERY EXCITED TO DO THAT.

THERE ARE SOME SURROUNDING DISTRICTS THAT HAVE THE OCTOBER FALL BREAK, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS INTERESTING, BUT THERE ISN'T FEEDBACK ON.

THERE REALLY ISN'T A LOT OF FEEDBACK ON THAT.

I THINK A LOT OF THEM, THIS WAS THEIR FIRST YEAR CAN MISS PEDDY, CAN YOU GIVE A LITTLE BIT OF FEEDBACK OF WHY THEY WERE VERY EXCITED AND PROMOTING THAT FALL BREAK IN OCTOBER? OCTOBER. IT'S.

WE'VE HAD THE EXCITEMENT OF STARTING THE SCHOOL YEAR.

WE'VE GOTTEN INTO THE SCHOOL YEAR.

WE'VE DONE OUR TESTING.

WE KNOW WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE.

SO BY THE OCTOBER DATE, THAT'S WHEN YOU START TO SEE A DIP FOR OUR STAFF.

I MEAN, THEY'RE TIRED.

AND SO THEY AND I'M CERTAIN OUR STUDENTS ARE TIRED AS WELL.

BUT OUR STAFF HAVE BEEN VERY VOCAL THAT THEY ARE TIRED AT THAT POINT IN TIME.

AND SO THEY WERE LIKE, WE NEED A BREAK TOO.

AND JUST HAVING THEY DON'T CONSIDER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT A BREAK.

WE'VE HAD A COUPLE OF TEACHER WORKDAYS, BUT WE HAVEN'T HAD ENOUGH OF THOSE FOR THEM TO REALLY FEEL, BUT THEY'RE STILL AT WORK.

IT IS IN A RELAXED, IT'S A LITTLE BIT MORE OF A RELAXED ATMOSPHERE, BUT IT'S NOT.

IT'S NOT A TRUE BREAK FOR THEM.

AND I THINK ESPECIALLY ON THE INTERMEDIATE AND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVELS, WHERE THEY LOST ONE OF THEIR CONFERENCE PERIODS, THEY ARE STRUGGLING TO GET CAUGHT UP WITH GRADES AND PLAN FOR THEIR WEEK OR THEIR MONTH.

AND SO I KNOW HAVING THESE EXTRA DAYS WHERE THEY CAN EITHER CLOSE OUT THE GRADING PERIOD OR HAVE TIME ON THEIR CAMPUS, NOT JUST PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, IT'S SOMETHING THAT THEY TRULY NEED.

AND THEN TALKING ABOUT IN THE STUDENT AND STAFF WELLNESS ACTION COMMITTEE, I MEAN, THEIR NUMBER ONE THING IS TIME MANAGEMENT.

THEY JUST NEED EXTRA TIME TO GET CAUGHT UP.

SO IT JUST FOR THEM.

I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY THAT'S SUCH A POPULAR OPTION.

THEY OUR STAFF IS ASKING FOR TIME.

LAST THING, I THINK TAKING ON THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL, I THINK MAKING SCHOOL START EARLIER IS GOING TO BE A HUGE PROBLEM.

JUST FROM WATCHING THE CARPOOL LINES, AND I'M PRETTY SURE IF YOU'RE TALKING TO THE PRINCIPALS, EVERYONE'S LATE, LIKE THERE'S SO MANY KIDS LATE TO SCHOOL.

AND SO I THINK IF WE MOVE IT ON, ONE OF WHATEVER YOU SAID, THE SAMPLE MOVING IT TO 7:30, I THINK WOULD BE A HUGE STRUGGLE FOR OUR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS.

AND SO I KNOW THE MAJORITY IN THAT ON THE DAC COMMITTEE SAID ADDING TEN MINUTES TO THE END OF THE DAY WOULD JUST BE SO MUCH EASIER.

[01:15:07]

YES. TO MANAGE. YES.

THAT YES, THAT WAS THAT.

WE HAD TALKED ABOUT ADDING THEM TO THE END OF THE DAY FOR ALL.

PRESIDENT BRYAN, I REALLY LIKE THE FACT THAT WE'RE GOING TO SURVEY, YOU KNOW, THE POPULATIONS THAT ARE IMPACTED AND GET THEIR FEEDBACK.

I MEAN, I CAN SEE PROS AND CONS ABOUT EVERY OPTION.

AND IT SEEMS LIKE, YOU KNOW, WHATEVER THE CONSENSUS IS IS WHAT WE SHOULD GO TOWARDS.

NOW, I REMEMBER IN YEARS PAST WHEN WE TALK ABOUT ADDING MINUTES THERE, THAT HASN'T BEEN A VERY POPULAR THING, AT LEAST WITH TEACHERS, BECAUSE I THOUGHT THEY DIDN'T WANT TO EXTEND THE DAY.

BUT MAYBE I MEAN, IF THERE'S, YOU KNOW, THEY GET EXTRA DAYS OFF.

IT'S A CONSOLATION, YOU KNOW, FOR STAYING A FEW EXTRA MINUTES.

SO I GUESS WE'LL SEE WHEN WE GET THE SURVEY RESULTS BACK.

RIGHT. BUT BASED UPON OUR INITIAL SURVEY, THE TEACHERS WERE IN AGREEMENT THAT, YES, THEY WOULD RATHER TACK ON THEY'RE ALREADY THERE.

SO THAT EXTRA 5 OR 10 MINUTES IS NOT GOING TO MAKE THAT BIG OF A CHANGE.

AND IF THEY HAD BASICALLY A DAY, A TEACHER WORK DAY TO DO WHAT THEY NEED TO DO, IT WAS WORTH IT.

ANY OTHER? ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MISS PEDDY.

OKAY, SO JUST TO.

WOULD YOU LIKE. DO WE HAVE A CONSENSUS ON WHETHER WE WANT TO SEND THE STAFF OUT? THE STAFF SURVEY OUT FIRST AND THEN SEND THE PARENT SURVEY OUT? WHY NOT SEND THEM BOTH OUT AT THE SAME TIME? YEAH. OKAY.

GO AS PLANNED. OKAY.

AND TO YOUR POINT MADE EARLIER, MISS PEDDY, ABOUT NOT WAITING TO HAVE THAT SURVEY OPEN OVER THE HOLIDAYS.

I AM IN TOTAL AGREEMENT.

OKAY. YEAH. ALL RIGHT.

WELL, WE'LL CHECK ON THE FEW THINGS THAT YOU HAVE ASKED US TO CHECK ON, AND WE'LL GET THAT SURVEY OUT ASAP.

EXCELLENT. OKAY. THANK YOU ALL.

ALL RIGHT. NEXT AGENDA ITEM IS 9.2.

CONSIDER RESOLUTION FOR GOOD CAUSE EXEMPTION FOR ARMED SECURITY OFFICERS.

GOOD EVENING, BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND DR.

LEDBETTER. LET ME GET THE PULL THE PRESENTATION UP.

I'M HERE TO DISCUSS THE GOOD CAUSE EXCEPTION.

I PUT IT ON AS GOOD CAUSE EXEMPTION.

IT'S KIND OF ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT YOU HEAR MUSIC LYRICS THE WRONG WAY, AND YOU START SAYING IT THAT WAY AFTER THAT, BUT IT IS A GOOD CAUSE EXCEPTION AND WITH HOUSE BILL THREE, WE HAD A LOT OF NEW SECURITY, SAFETY, SECURITY THINGS THAT WERE ASKED OF US.

AND ONE OF THOSE BEING THAT DISTRICTS ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE AN ARMED SECURITY OFFICER IN ALL CAMPUSES DURING REGULAR SCHOOL HOURS.

AND NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE TO HAVE AN ARMED SECURITY OFFICER, THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE SOMEBODY WHO IS EITHER A SCHOOL DISTRICT POLICE OFFICER FOR DISTRICTS THAT HAVE THEIR OWN PD, OR IT CAN BE A SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER OR A COMMISSIONED PEACE OFFICER EMPLOYED AS SECURITY PERSONNEL.

WE FORTUNATELY, ARE KIND OF AHEAD OF THE CURVE IN THAT WE HAVE SROS ASSIGNED TO ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES.

WE'VE HAD THAT FOR MANY YEARS, AND SO KUDOS TO US FOR THAT.

THE PROBLEM COMES IS THAT WE DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE A SURPLUS.

AND SO IF YOU HAVE OFFICERS THAT ARE IN TRAINING, YOU HAVE ILLNESS.

OR IF WE EVER HAVE GAPS IN HIRING WHERE WE HAVE SOMEBODY TO LEAVE, AND THERE'S A TIME PERIOD OF POSTING AND FINDING SOMEBODY NEW FOR THAT POST, WE SOMETIMES CAN FIND OURSELVES IN A POSITION OF STRUGGLING TO STAY IN COMPLIANCE WITH THAT REGULATION OF ALWAYS HAVING AN ARMED SECURITY OFFICER AT THE CAMPUS WHEN WE HAVE REGULAR SCHOOL DAYS.

AND THE REAL KICKER COMES TO WHAT A COMMISSIONED PEACE OFFICER IS.

WE'VE DISCUSSED GETTING ARMED SECURITY PERSONNEL.

AND IF WE HAVE ARMED SECURITY PERSONNEL THAT WE CONTRACT WITH, WOULD THAT MEET THE REGULATIONS OF THIS AND NO LONGER NEED US TO PUT IN FOR A GOOD CAUSE EXCEPTION AND TO BE A COMMISSIONED PEACE OFFICER THIS NEEDS TO BE SOMEBODY WHO IS TCOLE COMMISSIONED, MEANING THEY HAVE COMPLETED THE LICENSING COURSE, PASSED THE LICENSING EXAM, AND THEN THEY HAVE TO HAVE AN APPOINTMENT BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY.

AND WHEN I LOOKED UP, WHAT DOES THAT REALLY MEAN, COMMISSIONED POLICE OR PEACE OFFICER? THAT'S LIKE A DEPUTY SHERIFF OR A REGULAR PD.

IT'S AGAIN, SOMEBODY WHO'S WORKING FOR A POLICE DEPARTMENT.

AND SO BECAUSE OF THAT, HOUSE BILL THREE SAYS THAT DISTRICTS CAN PUT IN FOR A GOOD CAUSE EXCEPTION, SAYING THAT THEY CANNOT MEET THIS REQUIREMENT OF HAVING THIS ARMED SECURITY PERSONNEL IN A CAMPUS DURING ALL REGULAR HOURS.

[01:20:02]

BUT YOU CAN DO IT UNDER ONE OF TWO STIPULATIONS, EITHER FOR A LACK OF FUNDING OR FOR A LACK OF QUALIFIED PERSONNEL.

WE ARE NOT IN A FUNDING SITUATION.

AGAIN, WE HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR CITY AND THEY'RE PROVIDING THAT FOR OUR DISTRICT.

BUT THERE ARE TIMES WHERE WE DO NOT HAVE THE PERSONNEL THAT WE NEED.

AGAIN, WE CANNOT CONTROL ILLNESS.

WE CANNOT CONTROL WHEN THERE ARE LAPSES IN HIRING AND TRYING TO GET PEOPLE REHIRED.

AND SO THAT CAN CREATE A VACANCY THERE.

AND SO THIS GOOD CAUSE EXCEPTION WOULD GIVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE OUR OWN, OUR OWN ALTERNATIVE STANDARD, WHICH WE WOULD MEET AND HOLD OURSELVES ACCOUNTABLE TO.

AND SO THAT IS WHAT WE ARE HERE TO, TO DISCUSS.

OUR PLAN IS TO HAVE AN SRO AT EVERY CAMPUS EVERY DAY, JUST LIKE, AGAIN, WHAT WE WHAT WE'VE INTENDED TO DO.

THE GOOD CAUSE EXCEPTION WOULD ALLOW US SOME FLEXIBILITY TO MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS WHEN WE DO HAVE, AGAIN, A GAP IN OUR IN OUR PERSONNEL BASED ON, AGAIN, ILLNESS TRAINING OR MAYBE SOME SORT OF A HIRING ISSUE.

QUESTIONS ABOUT? MR. NICHOL. THANK YOU FOR THIS PRESENTATION.

YOU KNOW, WE ARE SO THANKFUL FOR OUR CITY, FOR GIVING US, YOU KNOW, OUR SROS THAT ARE AWESOME ON EVERY SINGLE CAMPUS.

AND THEY'RE IN THE PROCESS OF ADDING SROS.

BUT I KNOW AND AS YOU BRING UP THAT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WE JUST DON'T HAVE 100% COVERAGE ALL THE TIME, AND WE JUST CAN'T HAVE THAT IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT. WE MUST HAVE 100% COVERAGE 100% OF THE TIME.

AND I THINK IT'S PRETTY INTERESTING THAT WE WOULD, YOU KNOW, COME UP WITH SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO HELP SUPPLEMENT IN THOSE CASES.

CAN YOU EXPLAIN? WELL, FIRST OF ALL, HAVE HAS THE DISTRICT TALKED TO CHIEF BRANDON ABOUT HOW THIS MIGHT WORK, HOW THEY WOULD PARTNER WITH OUR SROS? AND THEN WOULD WE WOULD THIS BE AN HOURLY THING? WOULD WE CALL THEM UP AND SAY, HEY, SOMEONE'S SICK AT EUBANKS AND WE NEED SOMEBODY THERE THIS MORNING? HOW DOES THAT THE WHOLE CONTRACT THING WORK? YES, SIR. WELL, THAT'S GOING TO PARTNER WITH THE SECOND INFORMATIONAL ITEM I HAVE, BUT I'LL ADDRESS THAT.

I HAVE VISITED WITH WITH WITH CAPTAIN HERNANDEZ AND VISITED A LITTLE BIT WITH HIM ABOUT HOW WE MIGHT USE THIS AND WHEN WE'RE FULLY STAFFED, IF WE COMPLETELY STAFFED OUR SROS, WE WOULD HAVE ONE PERSON AT EVERY CAMPUS.

AND THEN THERE ARE TWO ROVERS THAT CAN GO TO FILL IN AS WE NEED TO.

AND SO WHEN AND IF WE'RE FULLY STAFFED, IF WE HAVE THESE PEOPLE, WE WOULD USE THEM AGAIN, SUPPLEMENTAL TO MOVE IN AS WE HAVE A VACANCY AS WE HAVE A WHOLE IF THEY'RE TRAINING, IF SOMEBODY IS ILL.

AND AGAIN, IF WE DON'T HAVE ANY OF THOSE THINGS, MY THOUGHT WOULD BE TO USE THEM AT OUR HIGH SCHOOL AND SENIOR HIGH CAMPUS, PRIMARILY BECAUSE, AGAIN, LARGER GROUP OF STUDENTS, MORE ENTRIES AND EXITS, HELPING TO PATROL PARKING LOTS, MAKE SURE ALL OF OUR EXITS ARE CLOSING AND THAT WE AGAIN, KEEP THOSE BUILDINGS SECURE AND FEEL COMFORTABLE THAT AGAIN, WE ARE MONITORING THEM CLOSELY.

BUT AS WE HAVE ANY HOLES, ANY VACANCIES, WE WOULD BE ABLE TO MOVE THEM AROUND WHERE WE NEEDED TO.

WHERE WOULD THE TRAINING COME FROM? HAVE YOU APPROACHED THAT? WOULD THEY BE TRAINED AS OUR SROS ARE TRAINED, OR HOW DOES THAT WORK? WITH THE COMPANY THAT THEY WOULD BE COMING FROM THEY WOULD COME WITH TRAINING AND TRAINING DIRECTED TOWARDS SCHOOLS.

THE COMPANY THAT I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT IN A LITTLE BIT.

THEY GO THROUGH QUARTERLY TRAINING AND THEY'VE BEEN TRAINED IN ACTIVE SHOOTER SITUATIONS, THINGS LIKE THAT.

THE BIG DEAL WOULD BE LEARNING OUR PROCEDURES AND OUR PRACTICES, AND THEY TALK ABOUT THAT, THAT THEY WANT THEM TO WORK HAND IN HAND WITH US AND LEARN WHAT YOU KNOW AGAIN, OUR PRACTICES AND POLICIES ARE THAT WOULD COME FROM MYSELF AND FROM CAPTAIN HERNANDEZ.

BUT THEY, AGAIN, WOULD BE UNDER OUR DIRECTION AS A DISTRICT AND WHERE WE NEED TO PLACE THEM BASED UPON THE NEEDS THAT WE HAVE.

GOTCHA. OKAY. I'LL OPEN IT UP.

MR. NICHOL, IS THERE IS THERE NO OPPORTUNITY TO HIRE OFF DUTY POLICE OFFICERS, EITHER FROM SOUTHLAKE OR SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES, SUCH THAT WE WOULDN'T HAVE TO RELY ON THE, YOU KNOW, THE EXCEPTION? THERE ARE. THE HARDEST THING, THOUGH, IS HAVING THAT ON AN AS NEEDED BASIS.

I COMMUNICATED WITH MULTIPLE MULTIPLE SECURITY COMPANIES, AND ANYBODY THAT I REACHED OUT TO SAID THAT ANYTHING MORE OR LESS THAN LIKE TEN DAYS NOTICE WOULD PUT THEM AT A SPOT WHERE THEY COULD NOT PROMISE THAT THEY WOULD ALWAYS HAVE SOMEBODY AVAILABLE FOR US.

AND SO REALLY TRYING TO LOOK AT SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE HERE ON A CONSISTENT BASIS.

AGAIN, I THINK THAT AS A DISTRICT, IF WE ARE FULLY STAFFED WITH OUR SROS, WE COULD CONSIDER AGAIN, THIS IS KIND OF BLEEDING INTO SECOND PRESENTATIONS.

WE'RE TALKING MORE ABOUT THE GOOD CAUSE EXCEPTION.

BUT IF WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ARMED SECURITY PERSONNEL, I THINK IF WE'RE FULLY STAFFED, MIGHT CONSIDER MAYBE ONLY HAVING MAYBE ONE PERSON WHERE WE COULD, YOU KNOW, PUSH THAT PERSON IN WHEN WE NEEDED THEM SOMEWHERE.

IF WE HAD VACANCIES IN FROM HIRING OR OTHER, MAYBE LOOK AT HAVING ADDITIONAL.

[01:25:02]

BUT THE HARDEST THING WITH GETTING OFF DUTY PD IS KNOWING THAT IT'S NOT LIKE A SUBSYSTEM.

THERE'S NOT A LINE YOU CAN CALL AND SOMEBODY'S THERE AGAIN THE NEXT MORNING.

MR. NICHOL, I MAY HAVE MISSED THE POINT, BUT IS THERE A COMPLIANCE ASPECT TO THE ROLE? OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE SROS AND I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY MET THE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENT.

IS THIS A DIFFERENT OR AN ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT OUTSIDE OF WHAT WE HAVE WITH OUR SROS? WELL, IT'S EXACTLY THAT.

IT'S EXACTLY A COMPLIANCE PIECE.

AND THEN ALSO JUST KEEPING OUR STUDENTS SAFE WITH HOUSE BILL THREE, IT'S REQUIRING THAT EVERY CAMPUS DURING ALL REGULAR SCHOOL DAY SCHOOL HOURS, EVERY SINGLE CAMPUS HAS TO HAVE AN ARMED SECURITY PERSONNEL ON THAT CAMPUS EVERY SINGLE DAY.

WHEN AGAIN, WHEN WE HAVE OUR SROS AT THE CAMPUSES AND WE ARE FULLY STAFFED, WE MEET THAT COMPLETELY.

NOW, THIS IS A COST TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, RIGHT? OR IF WE GET ADDITIONAL ARMED SECURITY, THAT IS CORRECT.

I'M CURIOUS. I KNOW, YOU KNOW, AS THE DISTRICT HAS GROWN ITS SRO WORKFORCE, EVERY TIME WE'VE GONE TO THE CITY TO ASK FOR ADDITIONAL SROS, WE DIDN'T HAVE ONE IN EVERY SCHOOL AT ONE POINT.

WE DO NOW.

I WONDER IF THE CITY WOULDN'T BE WILLING TO EVEN GIVE US AN EXTRA SRO OR TWO TO HELP US AVOID THE COST.

AND I GUESS I'M KIND OF CURIOUS TO HOW THE TRAINING WILL WORK.

YOU KNOW, I IMAGINE THEIR TRAINING, THEIR PROTOCOLS ARE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

AND THEY WOULD, IT SEEMS LIKE, HAVE TO HAVE AN EXTRA EFFORT TO COORDINATE THEIR PROTOCOLS INSTEAD OF JUST HAVING ONE TRAINED WORKFORCE.

SO I GUESS I'M STILL KIND OF CURIOUS IF THE CITY WERE WILLING TO OFFER US ADDITIONAL SROS THAT MADE SURE THAT WE HAD COVERAGE AT ALL TIMES, EVEN WHEN THERE WAS A VACANCY? AND IF THEY WERE ALL TRAINED TOGETHER AND DIDN'T HAVE TO HAVE DIFFERENT PROTOCOLS, I WOULD TEND TO WANT TO CHOOSE THE FIRST OPTION VERSUS ADDING STAFF THAT COST. BUT I REALIZE WE DON'T KNOW IF THE CITY WOULD DO THAT YET.

AND I THINK THAT, AGAIN, IT COMES BACK TO ARE THOSE PEOPLE AVAILABLE? I THINK THAT'S ONE OF THE BIGGEST THE BIGGEST HURDLES IS, YOU KNOW, IT'S KIND OF LIKE HAVING HAVING TEACHING VACANCIES.

YOU KNOW, WE CAN POST A JOB FOR A FOR ANOTHER MATH TEACHER, BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN WE HAVE MATH TEACHERS AVAILABLE TO TAKE THAT POSITION.

AND I THINK THAT THAT'S THAT'S ALSO PART OF IT.

BUT IT'S CERTAINLY WORTH A CONVERSATION WITH THE CITY.

YEAH. AND I THINK, TRUSTEE LANNEN, THAT THIS CONVERSATION IS BEING HAD BECAUSE WE'VE GOT GAPS AND THE CITY HAS GOT HIRING NEEDS THAT CAN'T BE MET.

AND THEN WE'VE GOT TO BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THIS STATE LAW.

AND I WOULD ASK MR. JOHNSON, THERE'S BEEN A LOT IN LEGISLATION AND LAWS LATELY.

IT'S HARD TO KEEP TRACK OF IT ALL, BUT I BELIEVE THERE IS FUNDS.

THERE ARE FUNDS FOR ISDS FROM THE STATE SPECIFICALLY FOR SECURITY.

CAN YOU OR DR.

SMALSKAS DISCUSS THIS? AND IF THAT MIGHT BE APPLICABLE IN THIS CASE? THERE WERE ADDITIONAL FUNDS AWARDED DURING THE REGULAR LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

I THINK IT WAS THE $10,000 PER CAMPUS AND THEN AN INCREASE IN THE ACTUAL PER STUDENT FUNDING THAT HAS BEEN INCORPORATED INTO THE BUDGET.

SO WE DID RECEIVE IT.

IT HAS BEEN CONSIDERED AND INCORPORATED INTO THE BUDGET AS WE AS I PRESENTED IT.

AND YOU ALL ADOPTED IT IN AUGUST.

OKAY. ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS.

ALL RIGHT. SO THIS GOOD CAUSE EXEMPTION EXCEPTION.

YES, SIR. EXCEPTION.

SORRY. EXEMPTIONS THROUGHOUT YOUR WHOLE PRESENTATION.

SORRY. EXCEPTION.

THAT'S OKAY. I'M JUST KIDDING.

SO I'M ASSUMING YOU'LL BRING THIS BACK TO OUR FUTURE MEETING TO TAKE ACTION.

WHAT DOES THIS ACTUALLY DO? IT JUST PREVENTS US FROM GETTING A SLAP ON THE WRIST BY THE STATE.

OR WHAT? IT'S THAT.

AND IT'S ALSO US ESTABLISHING, WHAT ARE WE? WHAT ARE WE GOING TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO FOR OURSELVES.

AND SO IN THE VERBIAGE OF THE KIND OF PROPOSED EXCEPTION, IT'S SAYING THAT IN THE ABSENCE OF A OF AN SRO, WHICH WE HAVE AN SRO ASSIGNED AT EVERY CAMPUS, IN THE ABSENCE OF AN SRO, THAT WE WILL HAVE ARMED SECURITY PERSONNEL THAT WILL TAKE THAT POSITION UNTIL WE HAVE AN SRO THAT RESUMES THAT ROLE.

SO WE HAVE TO HAVE THIS RESOLUTION IN PLACE IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO TAKE ACTION ON SOMETHING DIFFERENT THAN AN SRO? THAT'S CORRECT. FOR IT TO MEET THE COMPLIANCE PIECE.

THAT IS CORRECT. OKAY.

AND SO THIS IS SOMETHING THAT ALL DISTRICTS ARE HAVING TO DO, UNLESS THEY HAVE DISTRICT PD OR THEY HAVE SROS THAT THEY CAN ENSURE CAN BE ON A CAMPUS EVERY DAY OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

OKAY. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU.

MR. NICHOL WOULD YOU CONSIDER THIS THEN A FUNDED MANDATE BY THE STATE? THERE IS ADDITIONAL FUNDING THAT CAME IN.

[01:30:02]

BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE COST OF THE OF ALL THE AGAIN BETWEEN SECURITY FILM THAT DISTRICTS ARE PUTTING ON AND EVERYTHING ELSE IT'S A PARTIALLY FUNDED.

ALL RIGHT. OKAY. AND I'M GOING TO MOVE RIGHT INTO THE NEXT ONE.

THAT'S CORRECT. AND THEY GO HAND IN HAND.

THE SECOND PIECE IS LOOKING AT ARMED SECURITY PERSONNEL.

SO IF WE PUT THE GOOD CAUSE EXCEPTION IN PLACE THEN GOES TO QUESTION, WELL, WHO IS IT WE ARE GOING TO TRY TO CONTRACT WITH TO MEET THIS THIS REQUIREMENT? I WENT OUT AND SOLICITED BIDS FROM MULTIPLE COMPANIES AND PLAN TO AGAIN GO FORWARD WITH IMPACT THREAT SOLUTIONS IS WHO I WOULD BE RECOMMENDING.

THEY ARE ONE OF THE ONES THAT PUT FORWARD ONE OF THE MORE COMPETITIVE BIDS.

THEY ARE LICENSED AND INSURED TO WORK IN SCHOOLS.

THEY HAVE EXPERIENCE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, MILITARY AND PRIVATE SECURITY.

THEIR OFFICERS HAVE TO MEET QUARTERLY REQUIREMENTS IN ACTIVE SHOOTER SITUATIONS FIREARM SAFETY, FIRST AID, CPR, FITNESS EVALUATIONS.

AND THEY HAVE ADDITIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING, WHICH I THINK IS IMPORTANT.

AND THE COST HE BROUGHT COST EARLIER FOR TWO ARMED SECURITY OFFICERS, WHICH IS WHAT I WOULD BE SUGGESTING CONSIDERING THE NEED THAT WE HAVE.

IT WOULD BE $70 AN HOUR.

AND SO TO HAVE TWO ARMED SECURITY OFFICERS FROM THIS IMPACT THREAT SOLUTIONS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE 23-24 SCHOOL YEAR, PROJECTED COST IS $49,280. THAT'S APPROXIMATE.

SO AGAIN, HOW WOULD THAT WORK? WE WOULD SAY CONTRACT IS FOR TWO FTES FOR $49,280, AND WE'RE ONLY GOING TO USE YOU WHEN WE NEED YOU. HOW DOES THAT WORK? THESE TWO OFFICERS WILL BE WITH US FOR THE ENTIRE SPRING SEMESTER, AND AGAIN, WE WILL BE ABLE TO USE THEM AS WE NEEDED TO MOVE THEM AROUND AGAIN.

WHEN WE HAVE OFFICERS IN TRAINING, WHEN WE HAVE ILLNESS, WHEN WE HAVE A GAP.

SO THEY WOULD BE FULL TIME, THEY WOULD BE HERE AND THEN WE WOULD DIRECT WHERE THEY GO EACH DAY.

THAT'S CORRECT.

OKAY. WOULD THE REPORTING STRUCTURE BE TO YOU? YES. AND I WOULD AGAIN, I WOULD THINK THAT THERE'S GOT TO BE A COMMUNICATION PIECE BACK TO OUR SROS BECAUSE AGAIN, EVERYTHING DOESN'T COME BACK THROUGH ME.

BUT THEY YES, THEY WOULD REPORT TO ME AND THEN WORK HAND IN HAND WITH OUR SROS.

AND AGAIN, I THINK EARLIER WE HAD A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WOULD THEY BE TRAINED IN THE SAME WAY AS OUR SROS? WOULD WE, YOU KNOW, AGAIN, USE THEM IN THE SAME WAY? I THINK THERE ARE USE OF THEM AGAIN, WOULD BE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT.

THEY'RE NOT GOING TO BE INVOLVED IN INVESTIGATIONS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

THEY'RE AGAIN, THEY'RE GOING TO BE ARMED SECURITY PERSONNEL THERE FOR SAFETY PURPOSES.

AND AGAIN, WE WOULD WE WOULD OUTLINE THEIR ROLE AS SUCH.

YEAH. FURTHER QUESTIONS.

ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MR. NICHOL. APPRECIATE IT.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, MOVING ON TO OUR DISCUSSION ACTION SECTION OF THE AGENDA ITEM 10.1.

[10. DISCUSSION/ACTION]

CONSIDER FOR APPROVAL ATHLETIC STADIUM SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL.

MRS. ROBB.

GOOD EVENING. I AM BACK AGAIN THIS WEEK WITH THE SAME INFORMATION ABOUT THE RFP ATHLETIC SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL. A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL WAS EXTENDED.

AN RFP FOR THE ATHLETIC STADIUM SPONSORSHIP OF DRAGON STADIUM POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 1ST AND EXPIRED ON SEPTEMBER 29TH.

THE RESPONSE PROPOSED IS FROM METHODIST SOUTHLAKE MEDICAL CENTER FOR A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS, PLUS AN IN-KIND LIST OF SERVICES FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS OF CARROLL ISD.

THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE PROPOSAL WAS $200,000.

THAT'S EFFECTIVELY $100,000 PER YEAR.

THE METHODIST DOES HAVE A CURRENT DRAGON STADIUM SPONSORSHIP, AND THEIR CONTRACT HAS A CLAUSE IN IT THAT A PRORATED AMOUNT WILL BE REDUCED FROM THIS PROPOSAL FOR THE RFP, SHOULD IT BE APPROVED.

SO THEN THEREFORE, THE PROPOSAL WOULD GENERATE $190,750 OVER THE TWO YEARS.

THE DISTRICT RECOMMENDS TO APPROVE THE PROPOSAL FROM SOUTHWEST METHODIST SOUTHLAKE MEDICAL CENTER AS PROPOSED, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF LINE ITEM 2-4 THE SIDELINE MANAGEMENT OF ATHLETIC INJURY TRAINING TO ALL ATHLETIC TRAINERS AND STUDENT AIDES AS PRESENTED.

AND IF YOU'LL RECALL, WE DISCUSSED LAST WEEK IN THE INFORMATION SECTION THAT THAT ONE LINE ITEM IS A CONFLICT WITH OUR SPONSORSHIP WITH ALL-STAR ORTHOPEDICS.

AND SO THE RECOMMENDATION IS TO JUST STRIKE THAT ONE LINE ITEM.

[01:35:03]

HAVE MR. BENSON CHOCO HERE WITH ME TONIGHT.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS THAT HE MIGHT BE ABLE TO ADDRESS IF I CANNOT.

ALL RIGHT. THANKS, MISS ROBB, FOR YOUR PRESENTATION.

THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE, MR. CHOCO, AND FOR YOUR GENEROUS OFFER.

I KNOW WE DISCUSSED THIS AT LENGTH LAST WEEK, SO I'LL OPEN IT UP FOR ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE WE TAKE A MOTION.

I JUST HAVE ONE QUESTION.

MISS ROBB, COULD YOU GO OVER AGAIN? WHAT THE CONFLICT WITH ALL-STAR IS.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE NOT.

I GUESS THE STATEMENT BEHIND THE QUESTION IS I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, OUR OTHER SPORTS THAT MAY NOT BE COVERED BY ALL-STAR WOULD BE COVERED BY.

WELL ALL STAR ORTHOPEDICS HAS AN EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT WITH THE DISTRICT, NOT JUST A SPECIFIC SPORT.

AND IT'S IN REGARDS TO THE ATHLETIC TRAINING PROGRAM SIDELINE PHYSICIAN.

IT'S SPECIFIC TO THAT PROGRAM.

OKAY. ALL OF THE OTHER ITEMS ON THE IN-KIND PORTION AREN'T A CONFLICT IN THAT REGARD, BUT WE FELT LIKE THAT ONE WAS A LITTLE BIT STICKY. AND WE WANT TO HONOR THAT CURRENT CONTRACT AND THAT LONG TIME SPONSORSHIP WITH ALL-STAR ORTHOPEDICS.

ABSOLUTELY. THANK YOU, MISS ROBB HOW WILL THE SIGNAGE READ ON DRAGON STADIUM? SO UP TO METHODIST, AS FAR AS THEIR THE SIGNAGE THEY WANT, BUT THERE ARE THREE DESIGNATED LOCATIONS, ONE ON THE FAÇADE OF THE MAIN ENTRANCE OF DRAGON STADIUM ON THE HOME SIDE TOWARDS THE PARKING LOT.

SO IT COULD BE METHODIST.

I MEAN, THERE'S DRAGON STADIUM ACROSS THE FRONT, BUT IT COULD BE SPONSORED BY METHODIST SOUTHLAKE MEDICAL CENTER.

IT COULD JUST BE THEIR LOGO, BUT IT WILL NOT AFFECT THE NAME OF DRAGON STADIUM.

THAT REMAINS THE SAME.

IT WOULD BE THE SAME FOR INSIDE THE STADIUM WOULD BE ON THE FAÇADE OF THE PRESS BOX, PERHAPS.

I BELIEVE IT'S THE SPACE ABOVE IT.

OR NO. EXCUSE ME, I THINK IT'S THE SPACE BELOW.

IT COULD BE SPONSORED BY IN METHODIST.

I MEAN, IT WOULD BE UP TO THE PROPOSER TO DECIDE EXACTLY HOW THEY WOULD LIKE THAT WORDED.

I WOULD ASSUME THAT IT WOULD BE THEIR ENTIRE NAME AND PERHAPS THEIR LOGO.

THE OPTION TWO FOR THAT SIGNAGE WOULD BE THEN ON THE VISITOR SIDE, FACING KIMBALL AVENUE ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE STADIUM, IF THEY CHOOSE.

SO EITHER INSIDE THE STADIUM ON THE PRESS BOX OR ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE VISITOR SIDE.

THANK YOU. YOU'RE WELCOME.

MS. ROBB, I THINK I REMEMBER FROM LAST TIME, BUT I JUST WANT TO CONFIRM THIS IS NOT AN EXCLUSIVE.

IT IS NOT. IT IS NOT.

YEAH. THAT WAS WRITTEN INTO THE RFP THAT THE PROPOSER KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS THAT WE MAY HAVE OTHER HOSPITAL SYSTEMS, OTHER MEDICAL CENTERS AS SPONSORS IN DRAGON STADIUM.

YES. CORRECT. MS. ROBB THE AMOUNT OF IN-KIND SERVICES WAS PRETTY EXTENSIVE, AND I APPRECIATE THE TEAM FROM SOUTHLAKE MEDICAL, METHODIST SOUTHLAKE MEDICAL DESCRIBING THAT THIS MIGHT BE A QUESTION FOR MR. CHOCO AND THAT IS WHEN WOULD THOSE IN-KIND SERVICES WE TALKED ABOUT LIKE A MAMMOGRAPHY MOBILE MAMMOGRAPHY TRUCK, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS EXCELLENT FOR OUR TEACHERS, OTHER THINGS THAT WOULD HELP OUR NURSES.

WHEN WOULD ALL OF THESE IN-KIND SERVICES TAKE EFFECT? GOOD EVENING. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

AS FAR AS ALL OF US COMING TOGETHER TO SEE WHAT WORKS OUT BEST.

AND SO I BELIEVE WE SAID THAT THE CONTRACT WOULD GO LIVE IN JANUARY.

IS THAT WHAT WE I THINK THAT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE.

YEAH. SO VERY FLEXIBLE.

SO REALLY JUST WORKING WITH THE NEEDS OF THE DISTRICT TO SEE HOW WE CAN PARTNER WITH YOU ALL.

SO MISS ROBB AND MR. CHOCO, I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THIS.

WE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE SIGNAGE WOULD SAY.

SO THAT'S STILL UP FOR DISCUSSION.

EVEN IF WE APPROVE AND SIGN EVERYTHING RIGHT AWAY.

OR LIKE, WHEN WOULD THAT BE CONCLUDED? SO OUR INITIAL CONVERSATIONS INTERNALLY WAS METHODIST SOUTHLAKE MEDICAL CENTER WITH OUR LOGO AND DEFINITELY WILL WORK WITH THE DISTRICT.

IT WOULDN'T HAVE ANYTHING ELSE JUST BESIDES OUR NAME AND THE LOGO.

SO IT'D BE VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU HAVE ON OTHER ISD STADIUMS. YEAH, WE HAVE WE HAVE THIS AT MANSFIELD.

AND SO IT JUST SAYS METHODIST SOUTH OR IT SAYS METHODIST MANSFIELD MEDICAL CENTER ON THE MANSFIELD STADIUM.

THANK YOU. OKAY, NO FURTHER QUESTIONS.

CAN I GET A MOTION? I MOVE TO ACCEPT THIS PROPOSAL THAT FROM METHODIST SOUTHLAKE MEDICAL CENTER AS PROPOSED, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF LINE ITEM 224, WHICH IS SIDELINE MANAGEMENT OF ATHLETIC INJURY TRAINING TO ALL ATHLETIC TRAINERS AND STUDENT AIDES AS PRESENTED.

[01:40:03]

SECOND MOTION AND A SECOND.

ALL IN FAVOR.

MOTION CARRIES 6 TO 0.

THANK YOU, MISS ROBB. THANK YOU, MR. CHACO, FOR BEING HERE.

NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS 10.2 CONSIDER FOR APPROVAL.

INCREASE IN PARAPROFESSIONAL AID SUBSTITUTE RATES.

GOOD EVENING AGAIN, DR.

LEDBETTER, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

SO THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY SIMILAR PRESENTATION TO WHAT YOU ALREADY SAW LAST MONDAY, BUT I THINK IT WOULD JUST HELP TO REALLY GROUND OURSELVES IN WHAT WE WERE ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT. SO FROM OCTOBER TO FROM AUGUST TO OCTOBER, I'M SORRY.

WE'VE HAD AGAIN 57% FILL RATE FOR OUR PARA SUBSTITUTES POSITIONS.

AND TO REALLY JUST GROUND US IN THE RATES THAT WE HAVE.

WE ARE CURRENTLY PAYING $35 FOR A HALF DAY AND THEN $70 FOR FULL DAY.

FOR LONG TERM PARAPROFESSIONALS, WE ARE PAYING $75 FOR ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO 5 WEEKS AND $80 FOR ANY POSITION BEYOND SIX WEEKS.

IF WE WERE TO INCREASE THAT BY $20, WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT $55 AND $90.

WE ARE, OF COURSE, CURRENTLY HOPING THAT BY ADDING THIS INCREASE TO OUR RATES, WE'RE GOING TO ACHIEVE A 70% FILL RATE.

OBVIOUSLY, WE'RE ALWAYS GOING TO HOPE FOR MORE AND AIM FOR MORE.

BUT AGAIN, IF WE GO TO THAT 70%, I THINK THAT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT HELP FOR OUR STAFF AND OUR TEACHERS.

IF WE DO GO TO THAT 70% FILL RATE, WE'RE CURRENTLY LOOKING AT A COST OF $10,780, AND THEN WE GO FULL 100% BASED.

BEST CASE SCENARIO, OBVIOUSLY WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT $15,400.

I RAN THROUGH THIS PRETTY QUICKLY JUST BECAUSE I KNOW YOU HAVE ALREADY SEEN THIS BEFORE.

THERE WERE SOME QUESTIONS THAT WERE ASKED LAST TIME, AND I'D LIKE TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY AND JUST ADDRESS THOSE, IF I MAY.

TRUSTEE LANNEN, I BELIEVE YOU HAD A QUESTION, AND YOU WANTED TO KNOW IF OTHER STAFF HAS SUBBED FOR PARAS AND IF THAT HAD LOWERED THE PROJECTIONS.

WE HAVE HAD STAFF WHO HAVE SUBBED FOR TEACHERS, NOT FOR PARAS, AND IF THEY WERE TO WORK FOR A SUB, THE RATE WOULD BE $25 AN HOUR.

SO THAT WOULD REALLY BE HIGHER THAN THE RATE THAT WE'RE CURRENTLY PROPOSING.

SO IT WOULDN'T REALLY BRING DOWN THE PROJECTION.

TRUSTEE YEAGER, I THINK YOU HAD A QUESTION, AND YOU WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HE WOULD LOOK LIKE IF WE APPLIED THE LOWEST RATE OF OUR AIDES AND THEN USE THAT AS A BASIS TO CREATE OUR CURRENT COMPENSATION FOR PARAPROFESSIONAL SUBS.

THE LOWEST RATE IS $13.73 AN HOUR.

THAT'S FOR OUR PE AND LIBRARY AIDES.

AND IF WE WERE TO USE THAT METHODOLOGY, WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT $54.92 FOR HALF DAY, WHICH IS VERY, VERY CLOSE TO WHAT WE'RE CURRENTLY PROPOSING, THE $55 FOR HALF A DAY.

AND THEN TRUSTEE STACY, I THINK YOU HAD A QUESTION AND YOU WANTED TO KNOW THE SURROUNDING DISTRICTS FILL RATES.

SO WE REACHED OUT TO SURROUNDING DISTRICTS.

WE GOT SOME ANSWERS, NOT A LOT.

AND IT LOOKS LIKE EVERYONE'S KIND OF IN THE 57% AND 60% FILL RATE.

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE TO THAT, OR THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO THAT, WAS THE HIGHEST PAYING DISTRICT THAT HAD $100 TO $125 PER DAY.

THAT WAS THE SAME RATE OF PAY FOR BOTH TEACHERS AND PARAPROFESSIONALS, AND THEY FILL RATE WAS 93%.

SORRY. SO THAT WAS PRETTY SIGNIFICANT.

EXCELLENT. THANK YOU, MISS KAHN, FOR THE REFRESHER AND FOR FOLLOWING UP ON OUR TRUSTEES QUESTIONS.

DO WE HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR MISS.

KAHN? OKAY. I MOVE TO APPROVE THE RECOMMENDED PAY INCREASE AS PRESENTED.

SECOND. MOTION AND A SECOND.

ALL IN FAVOR? MOTION CARRIES 6 TO 0.

THANK YOU, MISS KAHN. ALL RIGHT.

LAST ITEM ON THE ACTION SECTION OF OUR AGENDA IS 10.3.

CONSIDER FOR APPROVAL.

FALL 2023 ACQUISITION OF THE NAVIANCE PROGRAM IN BILINGUAL DICTIONARIES.

MISS PEDDY. GOOD EVENING.

YOU MAY RECALL, LAST MONTH I BROUGHT THE FALL ACQUISITION, OUR K-12 INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS LIST TO YOU.

AT THAT TIME, WE REALIZED THAT WE NEEDED A WAY TO EXPEDITE SOME OF OUR PURCHASES.

HOWEVER, THAT WAS NOT ALLOWED IN OUR CURRENT.

AND WHAT WAS OUR CURRENT EFA AND EFB POLICY.

SO DR.

SMALSKAS BROUGHT THAT LAST MONTH, LAST MEETING TO YOU, AND WE ARE SEEKING JUST TO HAVE TWO PROGRAMS EXPEDITED.

WE WOULD LIKE THE NAVIANCE PROGRAM.

THAT IS A PROGRAM.

IF YOU ARE UNAWARE, THAT IS A PROGRAM THAT HELPS OUR COLLEGE SENIORS WITH THEIR TRANSCRIPTS.

SO THAT'S PRETTY CRUCIAL THAT WE GET THAT ONE EXPEDITED.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE BILINGUAL DICTIONARIES WHICH WILL HELP TRANSLATE FOR OUR STUDENTS.

AND THAT IS ANOTHER ONE THAT WE WOULD LIKE EXPEDITED.

WE CAN WAIT FOR THE OTHER ONES UNTIL OUR NEXT MEETING.

[01:45:02]

BUT IF WE COULD GET THOSE TWO APPROVED TONIGHT, WE WOULD APPRECIATE THAT.

THANK YOU MS. PEDDY. THIS IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF IMMEDIATELY, YOU KNOW, COMING TO THAT NEXT MEETING.

I THINK WE JUST PASSED THE ACCELERATED POLICY LAST, MAYBE IT WAS LAST MONDAY.

WAS IT LAST MONDAY THAT WE DID.

SO IT'S ACTION AND WORK.

SO THIS IS THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.

WE APPRECIATE DOING THAT.

INSTEAD OF WAITING 30 DAYS TO HAVE TO DO THIS.

WE CAN DO IT WITHIN FIVE DAYS.

SO THAT'S AWESOME.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR MS. PEDDY? OKAY MOTION.

I MOVE TO APPROVE THE ACQUISITION OF NAVIANCE AND BILINGUAL DICTIONARIES.

SECOND. MOTION AND A SECOND.

ALL IN FAVOR? MOTION CARRIES 6 TO 0.

THANK YOU MS. PEDDY. THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. MOVING ON TO OUR CONSENT AGENDA.

[11. CONSENT AGENDA]

I KNOW WE HAVE A FEW DONATIONS.

TRUSTEE YEAGER, DO YOU WANT TO ANNOUNCE THOSE? ABSOLUTELY. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR THE BAND BOOSTERS FOR ALL THAT YOU DO TO HELP OUR GREAT CARROLL BAND.

AND THEY HAVE HAD WONDERFUL SUCCESS BECAUSE OF THE SUPPORT ON AND OFF THE FIELD.

OKAY. THANK YOU TRUSTEE YEAGER.

I MOVE TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.

SECOND. WE HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND.

ALL IN FAVOR? MOTION CARRIES 6 TO 0.

THANK YOU TRUSTEES, IF NO OBJECTION, WE ARE ADJOURNED AT 7:46 P.M..
