DAWSON ONLY HAS A RICH HISTORY BUT ALSO EXCELLED, EARNING NUMEROUS HONORS OVER THE YEARS. I ATTRIBUTE ALL THE CREDIT TO OUR EXCEPTIONAL FORMER AND CURRENT STAFF, STUDENTS, AND THEIR FAMILIES. DAWSON MIDDLE SCHOOL ACHIEVED A RECOGNIZED RATING FROM 2004 TO 2006, AND AN EXEMPLARY RATING FROM 2007 TO 2011. IN 2011, WE PROUDLY RECEIVED THE HIGH PERFORMING MODEL MIDDLE SCHOOL TEXAS SCHOOLS TO WATCH AWARD. OVER THE COURSE OF 22 YEARS AS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, DAWSON HAS HAD FIVE PRINCIPALS. OUR VERY OWN MR. RYAN WILSON PROUDLY LED DAWSON MIDDLE SCHOOL FROM 2008 TO 2021, BEFORE HE WAS GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO EMBARK ON HIS NEXT JOURNEY TO LEAD CARROLL SENIOR HIGH. MR. WILSON'S DEDICATED LEADERSHIP PLAYED A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN SHAPING THE SUCCESS AND SPIRIT OF DAWSON MIDDLE SCHOOL DURING HIS TENURE. WE EXTEND OUR HEARTFELT GRATITUDE FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS AND WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AT CARROLL SENIOR HIGH. IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT DAWSON MIDDLE SCHOOL IS NAMED AFTER GEORGE DAWSON, A REMARKABLE INDIVIDUAL WHOSE LIFE IS TRULY SOMETHING TO BE REMEMBERED. HIS LEGACY ADDS DEPTH AND SIGNIFICANCE TO THE ESSENCE OF OUR SCHOOL, INSPIRING US TO UPHOLD THE STANDARDS OF EXCELLENCE THAT HE REPRESENTED. HE WAS BORN IN MARSHALL, TEXAS IN 1898. THOSE THAT KNEW HIM SAID THAT HE WAS A HARDWORKING, LOVABLE, HUMBLE PERSON THAT WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO LEND A HELPING HAND. IT IS WITH GREAT IMPORTANCE TO OUR DAWSON STUDENTS AND STAFF TO MAINTAIN A STRONG CONNECTION WITH THE DAWSON FAMILY. EVERY YEAR, WE EXTEND AN INVITATION TO THE FAMILY TO JOIN US IN CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF GEORGE DAWSON ON HIS BIRTHDAY. THIS AWARD IS BESTOWED UPON A STUDENT WHO EXEMPLIFIES THE REMARKABLE QUALITIES OF GEORGE DAWSON, AND THE STUDENT IS NOMINATED BY THEIR TEACHERS AND STAFF. SO THESE KIDS HAVE BEEN ON THESE INSTRUMENTS FOR ABOUT TWO AND A HALF YEARS WHEN THEY COME INTO DAWSON AND ARE LEARNING WITH US. SO WHAT YOU'RE GETTING HERE IS A LITTLE TIDBIT. I'M GOING TO READ THIS VERY QUICKLY AND THEN JUST MAKE A COUPLE OF FOLLOW UP COMMENTS. AS A NATION ALWAYS LOOKING TOWARD THE FUTURE, WE ARE CONTINUOUSLY CHALLENGED TO ENSURE THAT YOUNG AMERICANS ARE EMPOWERED WITH THE DILIGENCE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITY NECESSARY TO SUCCEED AT THE CHALLENGES BEFORE THEM. IT IS THROUGH A QUALITY EDUCATION THAT WE PLACE STUDENTS FIRMLY ON THE PATH TO A LIFETIME OF EXCELLENCE AND ACHIEVEMENT. IT'S ALSO ABOUT THE GREATEST GENERATION OF AMERICAN PATRIOTS WHO, THROUGH THEIR SACRIFICE AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEIR BASIC HUMAN DECENCY, LIBERATED MY FATHER AND RESTORED HIS LIFE AND INSPIRED HIM TO COME TO AMERICA, BECOME A CITIZEN, AND REPAY THAT DEBT BY SERVING IN THE US ARMY. TODAY WE SEE THAT HOLOCAUST DENIAL, ANTI-SEMITISM, AND YES, EVEN ANTI-AMERICANISM IS GROWING. AND THIS IS A HISTORY THAT WE CANNOT AFFORD TO OVERLOOK OR LOSE. GOVERNOR ABBOTT AND THE TEXAS LEGISLATION HAS EMPHASIZED THE IMPORTANCE OF HOLOCAUST EDUCATION BY ENSHRINING INTO LAW A MANDATE FOR HOLOCAUST EDUCATION DURING THIS HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE WEEK THAT BEGINS TONIGHT. SO I LOOK FORWARD TO EDUCATING THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRAGONS. WE DO SHUT DOWN THE CAMPUSES TO VISITORS DURING TESTING DAYS. THERE WAS ADDITIONAL TRAINING TO STAFF.
