MISS KURIAKOSE HAS DEVOTED SEVEN YEARS TO SERVING AS A PRESCHOOL TEACHER AT ROCKENBAUGH ELEMENTARY AND IS A PROUD DRAGON, A MOTHER OF TWO DRAGONS. HER SON IS A 2023 CARROLL GRADUATE AND HER DAUGHTER IS A CURRENT DRAGON SOPHOMORE.

ROSHNI BRINGS WARMTH, CREATIVITY AND COMPASSION TO EVERYTHING SHE DOES.

SO WITH THAT, I HAVE ONE PARENT AND FOUR TEACHERS WHO SENT ME SOME REALLY SWEET THOUGHTS ON HER OR ABOUT HER.

IT, A PARENT STATED SHE IS EXCELLENT WITH COMMUNICATION, COMPASSIONATE, AND HAS PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN IMPROVING MY CHILD'S LEARNING.

A TEAMMATE STATED, I FIRST MET ROSHINI WHEN MY NOW FOURTH GRADER WAS IN PRESCHOOL AT CARROLL ELEMENTARY.

SHE WOULD GO OUT OF HER WAY TO HELP ME WITH MY LITTLE ONE DURING DISMISSAL.

NOW THAT I GET TO WORK WITH HER, I SEE HOW HARD SHE WORKS, AND SHE IS ALWAYS KIND TO THOSE AROUND HER.

SHE WILL HELP YOU WHEN YOU NEED IT. WE APPRECIATE HER.

ANOTHER ONE STATED ROSHINI IS A WONDERFUL TEAMMATE.

OUR CAMPUS HAD JUST RECEIVED A MIDYEAR RESIGNATION FROM AN EMPLOYEE, AND THINGS WERE LOOKING BLEAK.

THANKFULLY, THIS BURLESON ISD EDUCATOR WAS IN POSITION TO MAKE A CHANGE MIDWAY THROUGH HER OWN SCHOOL YEAR AND WAS CONSIDERING CARROLL.

SHE THANKFULLY CLAIMED A SENIOR HIGH CLASSROOM AS OF JANUARY 2024, AND RIGHTED THE SHIP FOR BOTH AP BIOLOGY AND AP ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE DURING THAT SPRING SEMESTER. BEGINNING THIS YEAR, HER FIRST FULL YEAR, SHE HAS SUCCESSFULLY CARRIED HALF OF OUR 12 SECTION LOAD FOR AP ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE.

SHE IS CERTIFIED TO TEACH ALL LEVELS OF SCIENCE FOURTH THROUGH THE 12TH GRADES.

SHE SERVED HER FORMER DISTRICT AS LEAD EDUCATOR IN THE BIOLOGY DEPARTMENT, AND SHE'S CLOSING IN ON A MASTER'S DEGREE IN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES WITH A FOCUS ON ADVANCED CELL BIOLOGY, EPIGENETICS AND INVERTEBRATE BIOLOGY, HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY, AND BIOENGINEERING.

SHE'S ALSO GIVING A PORTION OF WHATEVER SPARE TIME SHE HAS LEFT TO HELP STEER OUR SCHOOL'S ENVIROTHON TEAM, WHICH COMPETES AT THE STATE LEVEL. THIS MONTH, SHE'S IMPACTED THE STUDENT BODY OF CARROLL HIGH SUBSTANTIALLY IN A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF TIME. IN ONE RECENT EXAMPLE, HER IMPACT FOR A SINGLE STUDENT WAS SUBSTANTIAL.

QUOTING THE PARENT OF THAT STUDENT, MY DAUGHTER'S AP ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE TEACHER PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN GAINING ACCEPTANCE TO THE INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING FAIR. THROUGHOUT THE RIGOROUS REGIONAL AND NATIONAL APPLICATION PROCESS, HER TEACHER OFFERED UNWAVERING ENCOURAGEMENT AT EVERY STEP.

THIS FAIR IS ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS STEM COMPETITIONS IN THE WORLD, AND MY DAUGHTER WILL BE PART OF IT IN MAY.

HER TEACHERS DEDICATION, AVAILABILITY AND MENTORSHIP WERE TRULY ABOVE AND BEYOND.

SOMETHING I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED FROM A TEACHER BEFORE.

MANAGING LOGISTICS AND SCHEDULING FOR MORE THAN TWO DOZEN COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND DISTRICT EMPLOYEES AND LEGISLATORS, I MIGHT ADD, NOT EASY TO WRANGLE TO ADVOCATE DIRECTLY WITH THOSE LEGISLATORS ON BEHALF OF US AND OUR STUDENTS AT CARROLL ISD.

WE'LL TAKE THAT. HER RETURN AS A SUB HAS BEEN MET WITH ENTHUSIASM AND APPRECIATION FROM BOTH THE STAFF AND STUDENTS.

HER ABILITY TO BUILD MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS, COUPLED WITH A DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF THE SCHOOL'S CULTURE, MAKES HER AN INVALUABLE ASSET TO ANY CLASSROOM SHE STEPS INTO.

BEYOND HER TIME AT OUES MISS STOLLY CONTINUES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE BROADER COMMUNITY.

SHE VOLUNTEERS AT LOCAL CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS AND SENIOR HOUSING FACILITIES WITH HER THERAPY DOG, THE ORIGINAL DOG AT OLD UNION, SADIE. WE'RE ESPECIALLY GRATEFUL THAT SHE GETS TO BRING SADIE ON CAMPUS, WHERE THE DUO'S PRESENCE BRINGS JOY, COMFORT AND A SENSE OF CALM TO OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF.

WE HAVE ABOUT 90 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE ROBOTICS ONE, TWO AND THREE CLASSES.

THEY PARTICIPATE IN THE VEX ROBOTICS ORGANIZATION.

THERE ARE OVER 20,000 TEAMS FROM 50 DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD THAT PARTICIPATE IN THESE VEX ROBOTICS COMPETITIONS.

THERE IS AN ANNUAL GAME THAT THEY PLAY OR A COMPETITION.

SO THERE'S A SERIES OF COMPETITIONS THAT LEAD UP AND CULMINATE IN A WORLD COMPETITION IN MAY.

AND THEN FOLLOWING THAT, THEY'LL RELEASE THE CHALLENGE, THE COMPETITION, THE GAME FOR THE NEXT SEASON.

SO IT'S KIND OF AN ANNUAL CYCLE LIKE THAT. THE PROGRAM HAS SOME WONDERFUL LIFE SKILLS FOR STUDENTS.

ORIGINALLY MY CHILDREN I THOUGHT THAT THEY WOULD JUST IT WAS GREAT THAT THEY WERE GOING TO BE HANDS ON AND LEARN HOW TO BUILD A ROBOT AND KIND OF SEE SCIENCE YOU KNOW, VERY HANDS ON, BUT ACTUALLY DISCOVERED THAT THERE'S A LOT OF SOFT SKILLS THAT THEY LEARN AS WELL.

SO ONE OF THE EXAMPLES WOULD BE JUST NAVIGATING TEAM DYNAMICS.

SO, YOU KNOW, THESE TEAMS CONSIST OF ABOUT SIX STUDENTS EACH.

AND SO FOR A LOT OF THESE KIDS, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY HAVE TO KIND OF NEGOTIATE WHO DOES WHICH ROLES, HOW THE WORK GETS DONE, HOW THAT'S ALL TIMED.

SO THAT'S ONE OF THE SKILLS THEY LEARN. ANOTHER THING THAT THEY LEARN ARE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION AND INTERVIEWING SKILLS AT THE COMPETITIONS.

THEY HAVE BEEN INTERVIEWED WITH THE JUDGES. AND THEN THEY ALSO CREATE A NOTEBOOK WHERE THEY HAVE TO PRESENT THEIR PROCESSES AND HOW THEY BUILD THESE ROBOTS.

AND SO THOSE ARE ALL VERY APPLICABLE REAL WORLD SKILLS THAT THEY DO.

ALSO, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, YOU KNOW, HOW THEY TIME THINGS, HOW THEY ORGANIZE THINGS.

AND THEN ALSO WORKING UNDER PRESSURE. AND THERE'S DEFINITELY PRESSURE WHEN THEY ARE IN THEIR ELIMINATION ROUNDS, GOING HEAD TO HEAD WITH OTHER TEAMS. IT'S TYPICALLY TWO TEAMS VERSUS TWO OTHER TEAMS. SO THEY HAVE TO WORK WITH SOME TEAMS AND THEY HAVE TO COMPETE AGAINST OTHER TEAMS. AND SO I THINK THOSE ARE GREAT LIFE SKILLS THAT THEY DEVELOP THERE.

AND SO OUR BOOSTER ORGANIZATION IS HERE TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAM AND THE STUDENTS TIME FINANCIALLY, AND OTHER WAYS THAT WE CAN SUPPORT THEM. SO SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS YEAR.

THIS YEAR WE INTRODUCED BOTH A JV AND VARSITY OPTION FOR THE STUDENTS.

WE RECOGNIZE THAT NOT ALL OF THE STUDENTS WERE INTERESTED IN GOING TO TOURNAMENTS AND REALLY COMPETING.

THEY WERE MORE CONTENT JUST TO LEARN MORE OF THE ACADEMIC SIDE OF THAT.

SO WE INTRODUCED THAT OPTION. SO STUDENTS HAVE MORE FLEXIBILITY OVER HOW THEY DO THAT.

ANOTHER THING THAT WE'VE DONE THIS YEAR IS THAT WE'VE HOSTED THREE TOURNAMENTS IN OUR GRADE SPACE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.

YOU KNOW, THE MAKER SPACE IS A REALLY NICE DESIGN HOW WE CAN OPEN UP ALL OF THOSE DOORS AND OPEN THAT UP.

AND SO THAT MAKES A REALLY GREAT VENUE FOR THAT.

SO AND THE HOSTING THESE TOURNAMENTS IS IMPORTANT FOR US BECAUSE IT HELPS TO RAISE.

IT'S A FUNDRAISER. IT HELPS TO RAISE MONEY FOR THAT.

BUT IT ALSO PROVIDES ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEAMS TO COMPETE WHO MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE BE ABLE TO ATTEND OTHER TOURNAMENTS.

SO A COUPLE OF IMPORTANT THINGS THERE. THIS YEAR WE WON THE UIL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

AND WHAT WAS EXCITING, ESPECIALLY ABOUT THIS YEAR DOING THAT, IT WAS ALSO OUR FIRST YEAR.

WERE THOSE POINTS THE, THAT WIN WAS ELIGIBLE FOR THE LONE STAR CUP POINTS.

SO WE WERE VERY EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE THERE.

AND THEN WE WILL ALSO BE SENDING TWO TEAMS TO THE WORLD COMPETITION IN MAY.

THAT IS IN DALLAS. SO ACTUALLY, SO WE HAVE I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS CAN SEE PICTURES.

HE WAS VERY ENVIOUS. HE'S LIKE, MAN, I HAD TO CARRY AROUND THOSE BACKPACKS AND THEY'VE GOT THESE GREAT CHESTS, SO THEY'RE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. AND THEN A SHOUT OUT TO OUR SPONSORS VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THEM.

AND THEN FINALLY JUST TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE CHALLENGE OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE HAVE. THE WORLD COMPETITION THIS YEAR IS IN DALLAS.

MOM, THERE'S TEAMS THERE IN THEIR SIXTH YEAR OF COMPETITION.

AND I SAID, WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT? AND HE SAID, WELL, IN VEX, YOU CAN START.

THEY HAVE A MIDDLE SCHOOL DIVISION. AND SO SOME OF THESE STUDENTS, SOME OF THESE TEAMS, ESPECIALLY THE ONES THAT RISE UP TO IN THE WORLD COMPETITION, ARE TEAMS THAT BEGIN COMPETING IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEAGUE.

AND SO OUR STUDENTS THAT YOU SAW, MOST OF THOSE STUDENTS ARE IN THEIR SECOND YEAR HERE.

AND SO I THINK THE FACT THAT OUR SECOND YEAR STUDENTS ARE GOING HEAD TO HEAD WITH THOSE TEAMS THAT HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR SIX YEARS IS A TESTAMENT TO JUST HOW GOOD THE PROGRAM IS HERE. BUT OBVIOUSLY, IF THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE STUDENTS TO BEGIN COMPETING AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL, THAT'S SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE THAT WOULD HELP THEM ALONG IN THE COMPETITIONS.

IT WOULD ALSO HELP, YOU KNOW, A LOT OF TIMES THE HIGH SCHOOLERS ENJOY MENTORING THE MIDDLE SCHOOLERS IN ROBOTICS.

THE MIDDLE SCHOOLERS ACTUALLY ENJOY VOLUNTEERING AT THE TOURNAMENTS THAT WE HOST.

AND THEN FROM A BOOSTER ORGANIZATION, IF WE GET PARENTS INVOLVED AT AN EARLIER AGE, AT AN EARLIER YEAR THAT'S THAT MUCH LONGER THAT THEY CAN BE A PART OF THE ORGANIZATION. IT SEEMS LIKE IT TAKES, YOU KNOW, JUST A YEAR TO KIND OF FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING ON.

AND THEN, YOU KNOW, THE FOLLOWING YEARS, YOU KNOW, PARENTS GET INVOLVED. BUT FOR THE ROBOTICS, YOU KNOW, PARENT MIGHT BE INVOLVED IN TWO YEARS AND THEY FINALLY FIGURE OUT WHAT'S GOING ON.

AND THEN THEIR KID GRADUATES. SO IF THE KIDS START TO BECOME INVOLVED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, I THINK THAT'S MUCH MORE TIME THAT THE PARENTS CAN HELP AND CONTRIBUTE AS WELL.

AND FINALLY YOU KNOW, LEAH SCHWEDLER DOES AN AMAZING JOB WITH THIS PROGRAM.

AND, YOU KNOW, IF WE IT'S A REALLY GROWN YOU KNOW, UNDER HER REALLY BLOSSOMED AND SHE DOES A TON OF WORK.

IT'S, YOU KNOW, THE STUDENTS, YOU KNOW, REALLY LIKE TO STAY AFTER SCHOOL TO CONTINUE TO WORK ON THEIR ROBOTS.

BUT THERE HAS TO BE A FACULTY MEMBER THERE TO SUPPORT THAT.

YOU KNOW, THAT'S NOT SOMETHING THE BOOSTERS CAN FILL IN.

SO THERE'S GOT TO BE A FACULTY MEMBER THERE. THE TOURNAMENTS EAT UP WEEKENDS.

SO IF THERE IS ANY POSSIBILITY TO YOU KNOW, HAVE SOME SUPPORT THERE THAT WE WOULD ADVOCATE, WE WOULD LOVE THAT. SO THAT'S JUST WHAT I HAD PREPARED.

SO I KNOW THERE'S BEEN SOME YOU KNOW, SOME OF THE THE HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS STUDENTS HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO HELP WITH AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS.

AT CARROLL MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THE PAST. I THINK IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THESE KIDS COULD ACTUALLY BE IN A COMPETITION.

SO, LIKE, THEY'VE KIND OF BUILT THE ROBOT. THEY'RE STARTING TO LEARN ABOUT IT. BUT I THINK TO ACTUALLY COMPETE WOULD BE PARTICULARLY HELPFUL FOR THOSE STUDENTS.

AND WHEREAS THIS REPORT WOULD PROVIDE CRITICAL INSIGHT INTO THE SOURCES, DISTRIBUTION AND UTILIZATION OF SCHOOL FINANCE FUNDS, INCLUDING FUNDS COLLECTED UNDER CHAPTER 49 RECAPTURE AND THOSE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH THE FOUNDATION SCHOOL PROGRAM.

I THINK SOME OF OUR STAFF HAVE THE UNDERSTANDING OR SOME PEOPLE HAVE THE UNDERSTANDING THAT WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN WITH THIS IS EVERYONE CAN BE A PART OF THIS PROGRAM, AND THAT IS JUST NOT TRUE. BUT THOSE ARE THE COMPONENTS THAT THEY'RE, THAT THEY'RE LOOKING AT.

SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHENEVER WE TALK ABOUT THIS, THAT EVERYBODY HAS A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT ALL IS INCLUDED IN THIS.

OLDER TEACHERS WOULD HAVE TOOL BELTS. THEY HAVE THINGS THEY HAVE. THEY HAVE THINGS THAT THEY COULD USE. AS A NEW TEACHER, I HAD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I WOULD WE WOULD GO TO MEETINGS AND NO ONE WOULD SHARE. SO ALL THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE BEEN WORKING UP TO, UP TO THIS POINT, TO HAVE OUR PLCS, TO HAVE OUR GROUPS TO HAVE TRUE VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT, BECAUSE OUR TEACHERS ARE SHARING WITH EACH OTHER THAT THAT COULD BE HINDERED BECAUSE SOMEONE WOULD BE AFRAID THAT THEY WOULD GET MONEY, THAT SOMEBODY ELSE WOULD NOT GET.

THE GOAL OF THESE STAFFING RECOMMENDATIONS IS TO REDUCE THE COST WHILE AVOIDING STAFF REDUCTIONS TO THE POINT WHERE WAIVERS ARE REQUIRED AND SECONDARY CLASSROOMS BECOME OVERCROWDED. WE HAD TO USE THE AVERAGE ENROLLMENT FROM THE PAST FIVE YEARS, AND THE STAFFING RATIOS TO BE PRESENTED TO REDUCE COST WOULD BE AT THE ELEMENTARY 22 TO 1, INTERMEDIATE 27 TO 1.

MIDDLE SCHOOL. 27 TO 1 AND HIGH SCHOOL. 28 TO 1.

SO, FROM DOING THE CALCULATIONS AND LOOKING AT THE STAFFING REDUCTIONS BASED ON TEACHER TO STUDENT RATIO, IT CAME OUT TO BE 17, WHICH COULD CAUSE, IN SOME CASES, WAIVERS AND LARGER CLASS SIZES.

SO. WE RECOMMEND REDUCING THE STAFF BY TEN POSITIONS THROUGH ATTRITION WHICH WOULD RESULT IN A SAVINGS OF $700,000 TO THE DISTRICT.

TAKING THOSE 1010 POSITIONS AND MULTIPLYING THAT TIMES 70,000, WHICH WOULD BE THE AVERAGE SALARY.

AND BENEFITS. SO SO JUST TO CLARIFY, AS WE AS WE LOOK AT THE POTENTIAL REDUCTION, YOU KNOW, STUDENT DECLINE IN ENROLLMENT OF 100 TO 200 TO TO MAYBE AS MANY AS 300, LIKE WORST CASE SCENARIO, THE REDUCTION OF OF OF TEN POSITIONS THAT ARE ABSORBED THROUGH ATTRITION.

THEY REALLY ARE JUST MEETING NEXT YEAR'S DECLINE IN ENROLLMENT EXPECTATIONS.
